St. John Brebeuf Offers First-Time Music Camp for Area Youth

Well, it may not be the “band camp” made famous by several feature films in recent years, but it will be fun and instructional for aspiring young singers and musicians from the greater Niles area. For the first time, St. John Brebeuf will offer a Summer Music Camp on July 13-17. Sessions will be from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Parish Ministry Center Monday through Friday.

The camp is meant for first through fourth grade students (2015-2016 school year). The cost is $45 for the week per student. The second student in the same family is just $35. A snack will be provided. A $25 deposit will be due at the time of registration.

“Children will experience singing in a group and an introduction to hand bell ringing,” says Marek Rachelski, SJB’s Music Director. “This will be a fun time of learning of early music skills with voice and instruments.”

The music camp also complements and completes the day for the new SJB Summer Camp which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. “We want to introduce children to music as an activity and a learning experience,” Rachelski said. He and Mrs. Ewa Fair will be teaching. “We hope that music camp participants will be inspired to continue their musical and singing interests in the fall when the academic year begins,” he said.
