Statute of St. John Paul II Dedicated in Niles
The Niles religious and civic community came out Sept. 6 to give witness to the dedication of a statute dedicated to St. John Paul II.

Father Michael Meany, Pastor of St. John Brebeuf in Niles, right, assisted in the dedication Sept. 6 of the shrine to St. John Paul II at the Niles’ Maryhill Cemetery. Standing to the left is Deacon Glenn Tylutki. The four-sided memorial is 32-feet tall and depicts the saint carved in gray granite on one side. Another side is dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa and one side for Our Lady, Mother of the Americas (also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe).
The Lira Singers who have also appeared at a St. John Brebeuf concert performed at the dedication services attended by an estimated 300 faithful including the Niles Mayor Andy Przybylo and other dignitaries. The dedication was done by the Most Reverend Andrew P. Wypych, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
