NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent mere accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
STOLEN RENTAL/LOANER VEHICLES

- Someone rented a 20-foot moving truck from the U-Haul at 7644 N. Milwaukee Ave. on Sept. 4 and was due to return it Sept. 5. An employee contacted one of the people who rented it and warned it would be reported stolen if it was not returned. The renters provided various excuses but had not returned the truck at the time of the report on Sept. 8.
- An employee of A-1 Rental Vans at 5717 W. Howard St. reported on Sept. 8 that someone had rented a large van for 13 days on Sept. 2 at a cost of more than $3,100. A fraudulent credit card payment was made and the van was later recovered on the Northwest Side of Chicago.
- A manager of Star Nissan at 5757 W. Touhy Ave. reported a loaner SUV was missing with its keys, last seen in possession of another manager, now employed at a Subaru dealership in Chicago.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Police were called to the 9100 block of Golf Road for a report of a battery in progress around 7:22 p.m. on Sept. 8. A man was striking a woman in a maroon Mazda as the caller and the Des Plaines Fire Department tried to get him to stop. The car backed into the caller, striking his right side before he jumped away. The car fled westbound on Golf Road and had not been located at the time of the report.
BATTERY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Police were called to the parking lot of a bowling alley in the 7300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue around 11 p.m. on Sept. 8 for a report someone had smashed a car window. Police were told a woman had become jealous and thrown a beer bottle at a man, hitting him in the face, before going outside and damaging his car. She reportedly returned to brag about the damage but left before police arrived.

BATTERY
A resident in the 8100 block of Foster Lane reported that, on the afternoon of Sept. 7, one of the employees of a moving company who had been called to a condo to remove a broken washing machine and install a new one had slapped her on the buttocks.
STRONG-ARM ROBBERIES
- Around 6 p.m. on Sept. 14, an unidentified man walked up to a woman in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy at 9640 N. Milwaukee Ave while she was putting groceries into a vehicle, grabbed her purse from her shoulder and ran away headed west. Police are investigating.
- Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, an unidentified man wearing dark clothing and described as 30-35 years old and about 5 foot, 7 inches with a heavy build approached a woman in the 6600 block of West Albion Avenue, got in front of her and snatched a gold chain from her neck before running away headed west. A witness followed the man down Hayes Avenue, where they noticed him get into the passenger seat of a red Hyundai SUV stopped in the street. The robber reportedly threatened a witness with a knife after getting into the SUV. Chicago police completed a police report and the investigation is ongoing.
JEWELRY THEFT
Around 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 18, a man and woman stole about 40 gold chain necklaces worth about $5,000 from a display tray at Lucky Gems at 9103 N. Milwaukee Ave. The man was described as about 5 foot, 1 inch, 25-27 years old with a white shirt and black pants. The woman was described as 23-23 years old and skinny with long black hair and wearing a black dress with spaghetti straps. The pair was lasts spotted fleeing in a white Pontiac missing its read bumper.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A shopper at Old Navy, 8315 W. Golf Road, reported that a man, described as 50 years old with brown eyes, short balding hair, a gray shirt and shorts, had stuck a mirror under the side wall of the fitting room as she tried on clothes. The man dropped his selected clothing and fled the store after the woman sought help from a staffer.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT/ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY
Police were called to a coffee shop in the 5700 block of W. Touhy Avenue around 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 23 where they were told two boys had tried to steal a tablet on Sept. 22. The two juveniles showed up again at a bus stop in Niles on Sept. 23, with one of them pulling out a knife and saying, "I am going to rob you." The victim ran to the nearby shop and they did not chase. One of the two was described as a skinny, light-skinned, 16-year-old with a green basketball tank top and green basketball shorts. The other was described as heavyset and dark skinned with a purple basketball tank top.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
A Ozanam Avenue resident reported on Sept. 24 that someone had fraudulently drained nearly $29,000 from bank accounts between July 13 and Sept. 11 after claiming to be from the resident's credit card company.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Meri M. Manika, 58, of the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Prospect Heights, was arrested at 3:02 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Golf Mill Center Target and charged with criminal trespassing and retail theft after reportedly stealing multiple energy drinks from the store after having been banned from the premises earlier this year.
Oscar A. Quevedo, 59, of the 6700 block of North Central Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 8 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop for speeding 55 mph in the 7500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. Officers smelled alcohol on the driver, who admitted to having "one beer" and showed signs of impairment.
Angel A. Indt. 26, of the 8800 block of Oak Park Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested at noon on Sept. 9 and charged with retail theft from the Walgreens the previous day. She and another woman reportedly distracted staff while stealing two pairs of slippers.
Igot Jovic, 36, of the 9000 block of West Terrace Drive in Niles, was arrested around 5:10 a.m. on Sept. 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a traffic crash in the 9500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. He was unable to answer questions or keep his balance and was taken to the hospital due to his level of intoxication.
Adolfo Toledo, 26, of the 600 block of Piper Lane in Prospect Heights, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. on Sept. 11 following a traffic stop in the area of West Church Street and North Cumberland Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked license, possession of a revoked license. Toledo admitted drinking six beers and refused to perform field sobriety tests. Two passengers, a 39-year-old Arlington Heights man and a 30-year-old Des Plaines man, were issued local ordinance citations for open alcoholic containers and sent on their way.
Nicholas G. Reeves, 22, of the 8800 block of West Golf Road in Niles, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Sept. 11 at his home and charged with domestic battery after reportedly hitting a person that was seeking to stop him from leaving an apartment on an incident recorded by both parties using cell phones.
Ramon Jimenez-Hernandez, 37, of the 8200 block of West Elizabeth Street in Niles, was arrested at his home around 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 and charged with aggravated domestic battery following investigation into an incident in which he reportedly choked a woman.
Amedeo Fedele, 34, of the 300 block of West Root Street in Chicago, was arrested around noon on Sept. 12 and charged with retail theft at the Target, 6150 W. Touhy Ave., for reportedly stealing nearly $330 worth of merchandise.
Michael Ciaccio, 32, of the 7100 block of West Madison Street in Niles, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 15 at his home and charged with domestic battery following an incident in which he reportedly put his hands around the throat of a man while intoxicated.
Dovydas Untulis, 29, of the 200 block of Braemar Glen in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 12:08 a.m. on Sept. 16 and charged with battery following an incident at Play Book Sports Bar, 6913 N. Milwaukee Ave. in which he reportedly hit a person in the face, knocking them to the ground and causing them to briefly lose consciousness.
Dawn M. Castle, 51, of the 700 block of Weymouth Circle in Hanover Park, was arrested at 1:38 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Golf Mill Center Kohl's store and charged with retail theft for stealing about $533 worth of clothes. She was also found to have an extraditable arrest warrant issued by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
Reynaldo Velazquez, 31, of the 5500 block of West Washington Boulevard in Chicago, was arrested around 12:02 a.m. on Sept. 17 and charged with misdemeanor assault at at the Walmart at 5630 W. Touhy Ave. He reportedly confronted people and squared up to fight them. In the process, his shirt was listed, exposing a handgun in his waistband.
Asfand Y. Khan, 25, of the 3400 block of West Stonegate Boulevard in Arlington Heights, was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 following a traffic stop in the 9500 block of North Milwaukee and charged with DUI – drugs. He was pulled over for improper lane usage and found to have smoked a marijuana cigarette before driving. He was also cited for possession of a small amount of cannabis.
Javad K. Noor, 39, of the 3600 block of West 63rd Place in Chicago, was arrested at 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 20 in the 9000 block of North Cumberland Avenue after an investigation of an idling vehicle in an alley with its headlights on. Noor, who had an active order of protection against one of the passengers as well as an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in court in connection with a DUI arrest in Chicago, appeared drunk and refused sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI and violation of an order of protection. Police also noticed open beer cans on the vehicle's floorboard and found drug paraphernalia on one of the passengers. All three occupants of the vehicle were cited for public intoxication and the cost of emergency services.
Paul R. Gibson, 60, of the 3300 block of North Seeley Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Home Depot, 901 Civic Center Drive, and charged with felony theft. As a store employee, he reportedly conducted 43 fraudulent transactions for a total of $1,457.23 between Aug. 8 and Sept. 4 by scanning returned items, walking around the counter to sign for them and taking cash from the register before the end of his shift.
Radoslaw J. Sapula, 37, of the 9300 block of Bay Colony Drive in Des Plaines, was arrested at 8:16 p.m. on Sept. 21 following a traffic stop for improper lane usage in the 2600 block of West Dempster Street and charged with DUI – alcohol. He reportedly smelled of alcohol, and his pants were reportedly unzipped and soaked in urine. He admitted to having "one beer," but multiple beer cans were later found in the car.
Mariam E. Jaja, 37, of the 9900 block of Linda Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested at 5 p.m. on Sept. 22 and charged with retail theft at the Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave., after picking up items, trying to return them and claiming to be a loss prevention agent for the company.
Jessiva A. Kovie, 39, of the 7600 block of Paulina Street in Chicago, was arrested at 5:44 p.m. on Sept. 22 and charged with retail theft at the Walmart, 5630 W. Touhy Ave., after receiving $185.34 via fraudulent returns.
Corey F. Sanders, 38, of the 400 block of North 26th Street in East St. Louis, was arrested at 11:41 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Walgreens, 8001 N. Milwaukee Ave. He reportedly matched the description of a suspect in a call of a shoplifting in progress. He was found to have merchandise in his pockets, as well as a small amount of cannabis and cocaine, as well as a non-extraditable arrest warrant issued by Madison County. He was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance over the 0.5 grams of cocaine and cited for possession of 1 gram of cannabis.
Michael K. Meadors, 37, of the 6000 block of West Touhy Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 8:47 p.m. on Sept. 23 after he was found to have an active arrest warrant out of Oak Brook related to forfeiting bond in a misdemeanor speeding case.
