NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity. INCIDENTS

THEFT
An ex-boyfriend reportedly stole the high school class ring of a resident in the 8500 block of North Oleander Avenue between Jan. 12 and 14 and pawned it off in Chicago.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone broke into a car parked in the 8200 block of North New England Avenue between Jan. 18-19, police were told. Jewelry, sunglasses and a cellphone charger were reported stolen out of the vehicle.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION
Police received a call from the Logos Christian Academy in the 7200 block of North Caldwell Avenue on Jan. 19 saying that a father had violated an order of protection by making contact with his children. An investigation found the man also was wanted on a Cook County warrant for a past alleged violation of an order of protection.

STOLEN VEHICLE
Police got a call on Jan. 19 to report that a known suspect had rented a truck on Jan. 5 from the U-Haul in the 7600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue but had never returned it.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident in the 8100 block of North Farnsworth Drive reported that someone threw bananas at the side of his residence causing him distress. The incident was captured on video surveillance and police are investigating.

BURGLARY
An employee at the Brunswick Zone in the 7300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue called 911 to report seeing an unidentified person enter the safe room where loose currency is kept around 6:48 p.m. on Jan. 16. After checking inventory, police were told $1,117 had been taken from the safe.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
An employee at the Currency Exchange in the 7500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue reported on the morning of Jan. 12 that a known suspect had passed a total of $12,682 worth of checks against an account held by a listed victim. The suspect had been previously employed at the business and stole the checks during that time, further investigation indicated.

RETAIL THEFT
Police were told around 5:23 p.m. on Jan. 18 that three unknown people had entered the Old Navy Store in the 8300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, picked out various items and left without paying for nearly $200 worth of merchandise.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Raya Zakayeva, 62, of the 9300 block of North Western Avenue, Niles, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 15 at her home after police learned one of the people involved in another incident had an active arrest warrant issued by Naperville police.

A 27-year-old Niles man was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of 2 grams of cannabis at 7:36 p.m. on Jan. 15.

A 76-year-old Glenview man was issued a local ordinance citation shortly after 3 p.m. on Jan. 17 after police were dispatched to the Target store at the Golf Mill Mall for a report of an unwanted person. Police said the man had been advised not to return. He was ticketed and sent on his way.

William C. Papagianis, 81, of the 6600 block of Touhy Avenue, Niles, was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. on Jan. 17 on a Cook County warrant at the Grosse Point Manor Nursing Home.

A 27-year-old Niles man was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of 4 grams of cannabis following a traffic stop for various traffic offenses.

A 29-year-old Glenview woman was arrested at 9:41 p.m. on Jan. 17 following a traffic stop in the 8500 block of Golf Road and charged with driving with expired registration and with a suspended license. She was also ticketed for driving with only one operable headlamp.

Feryal Zaya, 47, of the 8900 block of Gross Point Road, Skokie was arrested at 9:51 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Walmart, 5630 Touhy Ave., after she was seen switching a price tag of an item and trying to pay a lower price.

A 22-year-old Lilburn, Georgia man, a 22-year-old Chicago man and a 23-year-old Niles man were issued local ordinance citations for possession of cannabis and cannabis paraphernalia after police noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of King Spa, 809 Civic Center Rd. shortly before 11 p.m. on Jan. 17. The trio was found with about 10 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe.

Ramiro Arteaga, 35, of the 9000 block of North Cumberland Avenue, Niles, was arrested at 1 a.m. on Jan. 18 in the 2300 block of Ballard Road after police were dispatched to a report of a domestic battery just occurred at his home. Police learned he had fled to a home in Des Plaines, where he was located and arrested on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery.

Jeremy Figueora, 24, of the 4200 block of North Central Park Avenue, Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, and Adrian Vallejo, 22, of the 9400 block of Lawrence Court, Schiller Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police said they got a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot. When they arrived they found its occupants in the midst of a drug deal. Police searched the car with a K9 unit from Skokie PD and found 550 pills of Xanax, 62.5 grams of cannabis and 2.5 grams of cocaine – all packaged for resale purposes.

A 26-year-old Lincolnwood man was cited for possesion of a glass marijuana pipe in the parking lot of the AMC Showplace, 301 Golf Mill Center, shortly before 11 p.m. on Jan. 18.

Christopher A. Lopez, 36, of the 4100 block of Windridge Circle, Las Cruces, New Mexico was arrested at 6:40 a.m. on Jan. 19 at the Holiday Inn Express in the 7200 block of North Waukegan Road. Police said they got a report of an unwanted person and found Lopez in the parking lot acting "strangely." While speaking with officers, he "began acting aggressively," he was tased and taken to a nearby hospital. He has been charged with aggravated assault to a police officer and resisting arrest.

A 20-year-old Portage, Indiana man was cited for possession of about 5 grams of cannabis following a traffic stop around 7:49 a.m. on Jan. 21 in the 8300 block of Oakton Street.

A 33-year-old Chicago man was arrested for driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance at 12:36 p.m. on Jan. 19 following a traffic stop in the 8200 block of West Dempster Street for using an electronic device while driving.

A 19-year-old Morton Grove man and a 20-year-old Skokie man were cited for being in possession of a glass bong used for smoking marijuana following a traffic stop for various traffic violations around 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the 7900 block of Dempster Street.

A 45-year-old Palatine man was arrested at 8:51 a.m. on Jan. 20 following a traffic stop for speeding in the 7800 block of Dempster Street when police determined he had never been issued a driver's license.

A 32-year-old Park Ridge woman was arrested at 6:24 p.m. on Jan. 20 after police were dispatched to the area of 8900 North Greenwood Avenue for a report of a traffic crash and determined she was driving without having ever been issued a driver's license.

Karol Ponce, 37, of the 900 block of 9th Street, Northfield, was arrested at 8 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the Niles Police Department after she was pulled over by Arlington Heights police, who determined she had a warrant from Niles.

Adolfo Toledo, 25, of the 600 block of Piper Lane, Prospect Heights, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 21 and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 following a traffic stop in the 8900 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Police said he was pulled over for speeding and a case of Modelo beer was located inside. He was also ticketed for not having a front license plate.

A 49-year-old Chicago woman was issued local ordinance citations for public intoxication and taken to a nearby hospital after police were dispatched to Shotzee's Bar, 6055 W. Howard St., around 3 a.m. on Jan. 21 for a report of a drunk person.

A 19-year-old Schaumburg man was arrested at 10:25 a.m. on Jan. 21 in the 6800 block of Touhy Avenue after he was stopped for excessive speeding. He was also cited for driving without insurance.

A 36-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 5:14 p.m. on Jan. 21 after he was pulled over for driving with solid blue headlights in the 8000 block of Milwaukee Avenue and found to be driving without a valid license.

A 20-year-old Portage, Indiana man was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of 9.5 grams of cannabis following a traffic stop around 10 p.m. on Jan. 21 in the 7000 block of Touhy.
