Walmart Shopper Robbed At Knifepoint In Niles

The victim was approached inside the store Thursday by two men claiming to be "stranded" and asking for help.

NILES, IL — Police released images of two suspects believed to be behind an armed robbery last week in the parking lot of the Niles Walmart.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the store at 5630 Touhy Ave., where they found a woman who explained she had just been robbed at knifepoint, according to Niles police.

A Chicago woman told officers that she had just cashed a paycheck and was inside the store shopping when two men walked up to her and asked for help, police said.

One of the two strangers explained that he was "stranded" and "needed gas," according to police.

The woman and the two men went outside to her car. Once inside the vehicle, one of the men pulled out a knife and demanded the woman's cash. She handed over about $673 and both men fled on foot.

Police said both men appeared to be in their 40s. The man who brandished the blade is pictured wearing a blue baseball cap and was described as 6 feet, 3 inches and 180 pounds. The other man was described as 5 feet, 10 inches and 150 pounds.
