FoxFire Restaurant & Steakhouse Hosts Meet the Artist Event Featuring Art by John Highland

Former West Chicago Community High School educator and administrator brings his original artwork to downtown Geneva

GENEVA, IL — FoxFire Restaurant & Steakhouse will host a special Meet the Artist dinner event on Thursday, July 23, from 5:30 p.m. to close, featuring art by John Highland, whose original paintings are now on display and available for purchase at the downtown Geneva restaurant.

The evening gives guests the opportunity to enjoy dinner at FoxFire, meet Highland in person, view his artwork throughout the restaurant, and learn more about the story behind his creative work.

Highland has deep ties to the surrounding community. Before pursuing painting, he spent many years in education at Community High School in West Chicago, serving in multiple roles including teacher, Assistant Dean of Students, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, and Principal. For many West Chicago families, Highland is remembered as a familiar and respected figure in the school community.

After retiring from education, Highland began a new creative chapter through painting. His work includes cityscapes, landscapes, and expressive pieces that reflect his interest in color, texture, movement, and personal interpretation. His collection, presented as Art by John Highland, brings a distinctive visual energy to FoxFire’s dining room and offers guests another way to experience local creativity.

“John’s connection to the area makes this more than just an art showing,” said Kristopher C. “K.C.” Gulbro, owner of FoxFire Restaurant & Steakhouse. “He has been part of the West Chicago community for years, and now guests get to see another side of him through his artwork. We love the idea of bringing people together over great food, wine, conversation, and local creativity.”

Guests are encouraged to make dinner reservations for the July 23 event. There is no separate admission charge, and artwork will be available for viewing and purchase.
