$18K Business Check Cashed Fraudulently: Northbrook Police Blotter
The business's bank indicated the check was intercepted and cashed in Tennessee by an unknown person.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
SUSPENDED REGISTRATION
Daniel V. Soriano, of Bolingbrook, is accused of having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:38 p.m. Oct. 12, at Waukegan Road and Walters Avenue. A court date of Dec. 2 was assigned.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE
Julia Gamez, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:14 p.m. Oct. 13, in the 3300 block of Dundee Road. A court date of Dec. 2 was assigned.

THEFT BY DECEPTION
Blake Springsteen, of Worth, is accused of theft by deception, and was arrested Oct. 15. On March 21, the Northbrook Police Department responded to a banking institution because someone had passed checks that were suspicious. After an investigation by the bank and the Northbrook Police, the bank staff indicated Springsteen withdrew $3,500 from an account that was fraudulently opened in Glenview with forged checks. On Oct. 15, Springsteen was arrested in Worth on unrelated charges and Northbrook Police Department’s arrest warrant for theft by deception. A court date of Oct. 16 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
FLEEING AND ELUDING
Police saw a gray Mercedes traveling at a high rate of speed at 2:29 a.m. Oct. 11, at Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway. The officer measured the vehicle’s speed at 90 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle fled. The vehicle also traveled through a red light before eluding the officer.
FORGERY
An employee of a business in the 500 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on Oct. 11 that she had mailed a check in July to one of their partnering businesses in the amount of $18,277.16. The check never arrived. The business's bank indicated the check was intercepted and cashed in Tennessee by an unknown individual. The original payee name was removed, and a new payee was forged on the check.
RETAIL THEFT
The loss prevention staff at a clothing store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 12:31 p.m. Oct. 12, a female was seen concealing several pieces of clothing into her bag and purse. When she tried to leave the store without paying, the staff stopped her and had her empty all the items out. The person became erratic and started causing a scene until she could flee with the stolen shirt. Officers attempted to find her outside the store, but she was gone.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
A citizen reported on Oct. 12 that they had parked their tractor trailer semi overnight at a parking lot in the 3600 block of Woodhead Drive. When he returned, he noticed someone had smashed the driver's side window to the cab. The only item missing was the vehicle's powertrain controller, valued at $2,000.
THEFT FROM VEHICLE
A resident in the 300 block of Park Drive reported at 8:42 a.m. Oct. 14, someone had stolen the windshield wipers, valued at $94.94, off her 2019 black Land Rover.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Shannon Road resident reported at 10:52 a.m. Oct. 14, someone had used his identity to open a line of credit at a nationwide hardware store. The subject had fraudulently purchased $3,829 worth of goods with the line of credit.
