Illegal Brass Knuckles Found During Stop: Northbrook Police Blotter
The license plate reader indicated a 2017 gray Volkswagen driven by the accused had been involved in area residential burglaries.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON
Hector Castellanos Rodriguez, of Chicago, is accused of driving with a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, unlawful use of a weapon, and was arrested Oct. 4 at Waukegan Road and Kamp Drive. The license plate reader indicated a 2017 gray Volkswagen, later determined to be driven by Rodriguez, that had been involved in residential burglaries was in the area of Waukegan and Dundee roads. During an inventory of his car during a traffic stop, police found a composite style of brass knuckles.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE
- Mauricio De La Paz, of Elgin, is accused of speeding (61 mph in a 40 mph zone), driving while license suspended, and was arrested on Oct. 5 at Dundee and Sanders roads. A court date of Nov. 7 was assigned.
- Eduardo Alcantar Leyva, of Prospect Heights, is accused of improper lane usage, suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:28 a.m. Oct. 7, in the 2600 block of Shermer Road. A court date of Nov. 13 was assigned.
- Nursultan Soldatbekov, of Chicago, is accused of improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested Oct. 7 at Willow Lane and Patriot Boulevard. A court date of Nov. 7 was assigned.
- Florine J. Kimbrew, of Chicago, is accused of illegal driving on the side of the roadway, driving while license revoked, illegal transportation of alcohol, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested Oct. 9 at Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard.
FLEEING AND ELUDING ARREST

Ifran Krndzija, of Niles, is accused of speeding (75 mph in a 45 mph zone), improper passing of an emergency vehicle, reckless driving, disobeyed stop sign, fleeing and attempted eluding, unlawful transportation of cannabis, and was arrested Oct. 6 at Sanders Road and Rutgers Lane. Police saw a car driven by Krndzija traveling at a high rate of speed, and then unlawfully pass a Northbrook ambulance while its emergency lights and sirens were activated. During the subsequent traffic stop, police reportedly found an open bag of cannabis and two THC oil containers inside. A court date of Nov. 7 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
ATTEMPTED BURGLARY TO CAR
A resident in the 1000 block of Whitfield Road reported on Oct. 4 that someone had shattered the rear window to his 2016 black Jeep Cherokee while it was parked overnight in front of his house. The complainant reviewed his surveillance camera footage and noticed the subject was looking inside the vehicle, but never took anything.
ASSIST OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENTS
The Glenview Police Department asked other area police departments on Oct. 5 to assist with finding a 92-year-old person with dementia. The person had left in his vehicle and had not returned home. The police departments utilized the license plate reader cameras and located the person driving near Waukegan Road and Walters Avenue in Northbrook. The officer met with the person and stood by until Glenview officers arrived with his family.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Phyllis Drive resident reported on Oct. 5 someone had hacked into his airline account and purchased an $865 ticket using the complainant's credit card. The complainant and online service did not know how the account was hacked.
THEFT
- A complainant reported on Oct. 5 that she had placed her purse in the employee break room of her workplace in the 4100 block of Lake Cook Road. When she returned to grab her purse, she noticed it was open and rummaged through. She noticed $50 had been taken out of it.
- A resident of the 1700 block of Oak Avenue called police on Oct. 7 to report he had stored a white outdoor table along the easement of his property. At some point during the day, someone had pulled up in a white pickup and stole the table.
- A resident in the 1600 block of Ferndale Avenue reported on Oct. 7 they had a new iPhone delivered to his house via a nationwide delivery service. Shortly after the phone was delivered, he walked to his porch to retrieve it, and it was gone. The surveillance footage from his camera system showed a male walking up to the porch, grabbing the iPhone and walking away while concealing it. The cell phone was valued at$1,400.
STOLEN VEHICLE
An employee of a car rental business in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on Oct. 7 they had rented a 2023 white Mercedes to someone on July 14. The vehicle was due to be returned on Aug. 14, but the person never returned it. All attempts to contact the person on multiple phone numbers were unsuccessful. The officer attempted to make contact with the person's employer, but he was not present.
THEFT OF MAIL
A resident in the 1200 block of Dell Road reported on Oct. 8 that she had put an envelope in her mailbox that contained a check for services she received in the amount of $245. She assumed the post office picked up the mail and delivered it. She received notification from the company that her check never arrived. After checking with her banking institution, she found out the check was stolen and cashed by someone.
PICKPOCKET
A Skokie Boulevard resident reported on Oct. 8 she had gone to a grocery store to purchase items she needed. When she walked up to pay for the items, she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse. Her wallet contained several credit cards, her IDs, and her social security card. The person attempted to use one of her cards at a local Northbrook retail store, but the transaction was denied. The complainant did notice one of her credit cards was fraudulently used at a regional Walmart in the amount of $550.15.
