$19K Engagement Rings Stolen From Home: Northbrook Police Blotter

The incident occurred earlier this week at a home on Timber Lane, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

BANK ROBBERY

Emeril V. England, of Chicago, is accused of bank robbery, and was arrested at 6:17 a.m. May 30 in the 1200 block of Meadow Road. The Northbrook Police Department assisted federal agents with executing a search warrant on the defendant's residence. The proceeds from the bank robbery that occurred on May 28 in Northbrook were located and England was taken into custody. SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Janet Kais, of Northfield, is accused of having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 4:42 p.m. May 31, at Sanders and Techny roads. A court date of June 16 was assigned.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Lori A. Cardenas, of Hoffman Estates, is accused of driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, having an expired registration, and was arrested at 5:56 p.m. May 31, at Landwehr Road and Pheasant Creek Drive. A court date of June 16 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Ariana Beltran, of Lincolnwood, is accused of improper lane usage, driving under the influence, and was arrested at 2:03 a.m. June 1 at Dundee and Waukegan roads. A court date of July 9 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

A Manor Drive resident reported at 10:19 a.m. June 2, his spouse received a bill from Direct TV for an account she never opened. The account bill was for $101 that was opened in May. The complainant contacted Direct TV and locked their three credit bureaus due to the fraud.

COMPUTER SCAM

A Canterbury Drive resident called police at 2:13 p.m. June 2, to report she had found her home computer had been locked and the screen message prompted her to call Microsoft to fix the issue. When she called, the person on the phone said her bank accounts were compromised and she needed to call her bank, which they provided the phone number for. When the complaint called the bank, she was instructed to move her money to a different account and withdraw money. The complainant followed the instructions with the person on the phone. She withdrew $47,100 and deposited into bitcoin machines per their instructions. When they asked her to withdraw more, she became suspicious and called the police.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 100 block of Timber Lane called police at 6:01 p.m. June 4, to report the family's engagement rings were stolen from the household. The complainant last saw them on May 20. The rings were valued at over $19,000.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Bermuda Dunes Place called police at 3:02 p.m. June 5, to report he had ordered four phones through the internet, and they were to be delivered to his doorstep. When he was notified by the delivery service that the phones were delivered, he went to retrieve them from his porch, but they were not there. He checked his home’s surveillance system, and it recorded an someone approaching the delivery driver as he arrived. The person accepts the phones and flees the area. The total value stolen was $4,300.
