2 Men Steal $2K In Gas Over Several Dates: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Jorge L. Tosado, of the 2900 block of 74th Avenue, Elmwood Park, is accused of driving with a suspended driver's license, no valid registration, and was arrested March 18 at Willow and Sioux Trail. They were released after posting a $2,500 and a court date of April 13 was assigned.

  • A resident in the 3000 block of Pheasant Creek reported at 7:45 p.m. March 17, someone stole a package from the mailroom of the building.
  • A resident in the 3000 block of Pheasant Creek called police at 1:43 p.m. March 18, to report several packages were taken from the lobby of the building.
  • An employee at Waterway Car Wash, 200 block of Waukegan Road, reported that on Feb. 28, March 15 and March 21, two men made 20 unauthorized credit card transactions with multiple credit cards to pump $2,000 worth of fuel.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A resident of The Court of Island Point called police at 9:59 a.m. March 18, to report someone opened an unauthorized charge account and made several purchases.
  • A Walters Avenue resident reported that on March 18 and March 19, someone opened an unauthorized bank account using his name.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A caregiver of a person in the 2000 block of Windsor reported at 5:08 p.m. March 18, a heavyset man, wearing a baseball style hat, face mask, and gloves, rang the doorbell and said they were checking the area due to contaminated water. The man was allowed entry to run the faucet, and the complainant left the front door unlocked. The man began talking to another person on a walkie-talkie, which caused the complainant to feel uncomfortable. She asked the man to leave, but he refused at first. The man then exited the residence. The complainant discovered the bedrooms had been ransacked and items were missing. The complainant observed the rear door to be unlocked and was partially open.

SUSPICIOUS TELEPHONE CALL

A Picardy Drive resident reported at 9:17 a.m. March 19, they received a call from an unknown person who said they were from a gas company. The caller requested permission to start work at the house earlier than the scheduled time. The complainant denied the person entry and said they did not have any appointments scheduled.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A Michelline Lane resident called police at 11:52 a.m. March 19, to report they received a text message from someone claiming to be from Amazon. The person requested the complainant to purchase several gift cards. The complainant then terminated the call due to it being a scam.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • A person at Bark and Bow Dog Spa, 300 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported that between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. March 19, someone removed her purse from her unlocked vehicle.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Cedar Lane called police to report that between March 15 and March 19, someone removed the catalytic converter from their vehicle.

BURGLARY

The Northbrook Fire Department responded to the Five Seasons Country Club, 1300 block of Techny Road, at 4:25 p.m. March 19, for an activated fire alarm and found signs of criminal damage. Officers located a garbage can that had been thrown through one window, and another window was found open by someone. Officers located several fire extinguishers that had been discharged inside the property.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at CVS, 900 block of Willow Road, reported at 7:41 p.m. March 20, a man removed several bottles of liquor and left without paying. The man was wearing a black face mask and all black clothing.
