NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Staff at the Mariano's, 784 Skokie Blvd., reported on Oct. 24 that a man and a woman stole two bottles of alcohol.
  • Staff at the Northbrook Court Apple Store reported around 6:45 p.m. Oct. 26 that three people came into the store and took numerous display models of cell phones. Such phones can easily be immediately tracked or deactivated when stolen. Police did not provide any descriptions of the thieves.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a wallet and car keys from a vehicle left unlocked in a driveway in the 2400 block of Cobblewood Drive at some point prior to 6 p.m. Oct. 27.
  • Between 8 p.m. Oct. 22 and 8 a.m. Oct. 23, someone stole a metal box with about $40 in coins from inside a parked car that had been left unlocked in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 1900 block of Farnsworth Lane reported around 10:45 p.m. Oct. 24 that someone had stolen a package that had been delivered to the vestibule of a building.

COUNTERFEITING
Staff at the Walgreens, 1050 Waukegan Road, reported around 8:45 a.m. Oct. 26 that they had been given a pair of counterfeit $100 bills.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE/VANDALISM
Someone appeared to have gotten onto a roof in the 1900 block of Cherry Lane and thrown tiles onto the ground. Police reported there was also graffiti found on the building around 11 a.m. Oct. 28.


ARRESTS

Makayla M. Harris, 19, of the 700 block of West 43rd Street, Chicago, and Tayah M. Washington, 19, of the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue, Chicago, were arrested around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 and each charged with felony retail theft after police were told they had stolen several purses that had been on display at the Nordstrom Rack, 199 Skokie Blvd.

Fatima J. Syeda, 40, of the 7300 block of North Maplewood Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Northbrook Court Neiman-Marcus and charged with retail theft after police were told she stole $1,968 worth of merchandise from the store.
