Garage Prowler Nabbed; A Dozen Cars Burglarized: Blotter
Wanted Wisconsin woman found by neighboring agency, driver discovered stopped in traffic charged with DUI: Northbrook police blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
SHOPLIFTING

- Staff at the Mariano's, 784 Skokie Blvd., reported shortly before 6 p.m. Oct. 17 that a man or boy stole several unspecified items.
- On Oct. 14, staff at the Lowe's, 1000 Willow Road, reported a male shoplifter stole several power tools with a combined retail price of more than $1,400.
- A man or boy stole a hat and shirt from the Northbrook Court Neiman Marcus between 3:41 and 3:48 p.m. Oct. 19, police were told.
- Staff at the Nordstrom Rack, 199 Skokie Valley Road, reported shortly before 1 p.m. Oct. 20 that five men or boys stole an unspecified number of sweaters from a rack.
- Two women or girls stole about $500 worth of merchandise from the Dick's Sporting Goods at 275 Skokie Blvd. prior to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22.
HOME BURGLARIES
- A resident in the 2000 block of Woodlawn Road reported someone got into their house through an unlocked door between 1 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and stole various pieces of jewelry from several rooms.
- A male bicyclist was spotted entering a garage left open in the 3400 block of Whirlaway Drive prior to 5 p.m. Oct. 21. When the resident confronted the burglar, he fled.
CAR BURGLARIES

- An employee in the 4000 block of Lake Cook Road reported around 11:15 p.m. Oct. 18 that someone broke a window on their car and stole a purse from inside while they were at work.
- A patron of a jewelry store in the 300 block of Skokie Boulevard reported around 6 p.m. Oct. 22 that someone took their purse from an unlocked car while they were inside the business. Various credit cards, $300 in cash and miscellaneous items were reported stolen. Someone unsuccessfully tried to make purchases with the stolen cards.
- A resident in the 2400 block of Maple Avenue reported someone burglarized their unlocked car between 10 p.m. Oct. 22 and 6:40 a.m. Oct. 23. Nothing was reported stolen.
- A resident in the 1800 block of Oak Avenue reported a burglar entered their unlocked car between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Oct. 23. Nothing was reported stolen.
- A resident in the 1500 block of Spruce Street reported someone burglarized multiple unlocked car between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Nothing was reported stolen.
- Someone stole a $750 pair of shoes, a deactivated cell phone, a backpack with school books and a laptop computer between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Oct. 23 after getting into two unlocked cars parked in the 1500 block of Elm Avenue.
- A resident in the 2100 block of Valencia Drive reported someone stole a spare key that had been left in their unlocked car between 8:15 p.m. Oct. 22 and 1 p.m. Oct. 23.
- Someone stole a phone case worth $40 from an unlocked car parked in the 1400 block of Shermer Road prior to 6:15 p.m. Oct. 23.
- A flashlight was stolen from the center console of a car left unlocked in the 1800 block of Oak Avenue prior to 8:15 p.m. Oct. 23.
- A patron of a restaurant in the 1100 block of Willow Road reported around 8:15 p.m. Oct. 23 that someone smashed the rear passenger window of their car and stole a backpack and a bag with a laptop, keys, a work ID and several pieces of clothing for an unspecified loss.
- Someone rummaged through a car parked in the 1700 block of Oak Avenue. Nothing was stolen and police did not specify if the car was locked.
THEFTS
- A customer at the Panera Bread, 772 Skokie Blvd., reported around 1 p.m. Oct. 21 that someone had stolen their wallet from inside a purse while it hung on the back of a chair while eating. The card was canceled, but not before someone managed to complete a $1,643.88 purchase and attempt others.
- A shopper at the Goodwill store, 4131 Dundee Road, reported around 1 p.m. Oct. 23 that someone had taken their cell phone with a purple case while they were in the store. Police were told the phone may have fallen out of the shoppers pocket as they tried on shoes.
- Several tools have gone missing from Commonwealth Edison property in the 1300 block of Skokie Boulevard over the past two months, police were told around 3 p.m. Oct. 24.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Using stolen the debit card information of a Carraige Lane resident, someone was able to buy nearly $1,000 in unspecified merchandise.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone smashed the driver's side window of a car parked in the 900 block of Shermer Road between 4 p.m. Oct. 23 and 1 p.m. Oct. 24. The interior of the car did not appear disturbed.
ARRESTS
Cory M. Nielsen, 30, of the 20100 block of South Fairwood Court, Frankfort, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. Oct. 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after an officer on patrol found him stopped in traffic on the road and determined he was impaired. Nielsen was also issued citations for illegal stopping and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver.
A 28-year-old Wheeling man was arrested around 1 a.m. Oct. 20 and charged with driving with a suspended license and registration after getting pulled over in the area of Willow and Landwehr roads. He was also issued a citation for speeding.
Ashley C. Williams, 23, of the 2600 block of Medford Avenue, Milwaukee, was taken into custody by Northbrook police around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 22 after she was detained by a unspecified neighboring agency that learned she had an active Northbrook arrest warrant connected to a charge of retail theft.
Bryan J. Abens, 32, of the 1700 block of Sienna Court, Wheeling, was arrested around 5 p.m. Oct. 24 in the 3900 block of Walters Avenue and charged with residential burglary and resisting arrest after police were called to a home in the 1400 block of Juli-Lyn Lane. A resident reported discovering him in her garage, wearing all black and a backpack and crouching down next to the driver's side door. When the resident saw him, she fled. Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood and discovered Abens, who the resident identified as the burglar.
