According to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the duo entered the store at around 4:30 p.m., bought pizza and wings, left the store, before approaching the store again an hour later. After about three minutes, they ran behind the counter.

One of the two grabbed the cash register and smashed it on the ground, while the other person started grabbing cigarette boxes and cigars. They grabbed cash and ran out, about $1,638.72, according to Collin DeBrabander, assistant state's attorney at CCSAO.

Multiple Northbrook police units responded to the location. Officers tracked the duo on surveillance video from nearby businesses and saw their dark-colored Scion leaving a nearby parking lot. Officers had heard about a similar robbery at a 7-Eleven in Hickory Hills a day earlier, where suspects of the same description used the same type of car. There was also a similar incident reported on Aug. 31 in Palos Heights. In all three cases, the suspects threw the cash register onto the ground and targeted cash, cigarettes and tobacco, according to CCSAO.

On Oct. 20, 2020, a print from one of the other robberies was identified as Luellen and he was charged in that robbery. CCSAO said he confessed to the Northbrook robbery in January.

Luellen is due back in court April 7 for a bond review hearing.
