Allstate Will Insure Uber and Lyft Drivers
Company will begin offering the Ride for Hire policy in four states this year.

Northbrook-based Allstate Corp. will soon begin to insure Uber and Lyft drivers as well as users of other similar ride-hailing apps.
The Ride for Hire policy will cost $15 to $20 a year on average and will provide coverage for drivers who get into accidents while they are on the way to pick up new fares, according to Crain’s Chicago.

The coverage also can help drivers deal with gaps in coverage between their own auto insurance and policies, the company added in a statement.
The coverage will begin to be offered in Illinois, Colorado, Texas and Virginia this year and begin in other major markets in 2016.
