Applications Open for Leadership Northbrook Program

The Northbrook Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its 2021-22 Leadership Northbrook program. Launched in 1986, this Chamber initiative increases civic awareness and engagement for participants who learn about local governmental bodies, non-profit organizations, and leading businesses that shape our community. The eight-month program is open to individuals who live or work within the Village of Northbrook.

Leadership Northbrook classes meet on the second Friday morning of each month, September through April. The program traditionally has involved a wide variety of monthly site visits, ranging from “backstage” views of the police station, water treatment plant, and other public entities to exclusive tours of major manufacturing businesses. The interactive nature of the program forced its cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic, and the upcoming session may require some adaptations. However, the overriding goal will remain the same: participants will gain an appreciation of the unique assets that contribute to Northbrook’s vitality and will be inspired to get involved in the Village’s future needs.

Participants come from a diverse range of backgrounds, including employees of the Village, Park District, Library, and school districts, business owners, non-profit managers, and religious community leaders. Residents who graduate from the program frequently go on to involvement in Village volunteer organizations and commissions.

Applications are now available for a limited number of participants. A registration fee of $250 covers program expenses. Spaces will be filled on a rolling basis. The first session of the 2021 program will be held September 10.
