Burglary Reported During Easter Mass: Northbrook Police Blotter

Someone broke into the living quarters at a religious center during Easter services, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

Marwin Jose Fernandez Rosales, of Chicago, is accused of speeding (58 mph in a 40 mph zone), improper use of registration, no valid driver's license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal possession of ammunition, and was arrested at 7:09 p.m. March 31, at Sanders and Lake Cook roads. After stopping his car for speeding, police said they found two 9mm rounds of ammunition and Rosales didn't have a valid FOID card. A court date of April 18 was assigned.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • Eric Chavez, of Des Plaines, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an unsure motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:23 p.m. April 1, at Dundee and Lee roads. A court date of April 23 was assigned.
  • Kenya J. Wright, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 11 p.m. April 3, at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard. A court date of May 8 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

FLEEING AND ELUDING

  • Police responded to the area of Pfingsten Road and Prince Street at 10:08 a.m. March 31, for a report a stolen car had been spotted. The officer found the vehicle, a 2018 grey Nissan, driving northbound. The officer stopped the vehicle and walked up to the driver’s window. The driver sped off and fled from the officer. The officer attempted to catch up to the fleeing vehicle, which was traveling 84 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer stopped pursued the vehicle and it was last seen traveling westbound on Lake Cook Road.
  • Police saw a red Ford pickup truck with a defective headlight at 11:56 p.m. April 2, at Dundee Road and Edens Expressway. As the officer drove close to the vehicle, he noticed the license plate attached to the vehicle was reported stolen. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle accelerated up to 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. The vehicle never stopped and fled out of Northbrook.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

Multiple complaints were received on April 1 regarding someone breaking into their living quarters at a religious center in the 1900 block of Waukegan Road and stealing money from their desks during Easter services. A total of $4,750 was stolen. No other items were taken.

FRAUD/FORGERY

The manager of a commercial business in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue reported at 12:55 p.m. April 3, someone had created a fake business check in the amount of $27,300 using their company name and cashed it. The manager said their business has not used paper checks to pay vendors for several years and was alerted by their bank of the fraud.

TELEPHONE SCAM

A Founders Drive resident reported at 3:53 p.m. April 3, she had received a phone call by someone claiming to work for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. They told her she did not show up for jury duty and would be subject to fines unless she did exactly as he instructed. She was advised to go to different banks and withdraw money, then change the money into Bitcoin and send that to him. Ultimately, she sent the person $6,000. The complainant called Northbrook Police and verified it was a scam.

THEFT

A resident in the 2400 block of Oak Avenue called police at 3:51 p.m. April 3, to report someone stole the front license plate from her son’s 2022 gray Audi during the day while attending school.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Maple Avenue resident reported at 5:10 p.m. April 3, someone had used his name to open a Verizon Wireless account. When he called Verizon, the fraud department said they had already flagged the account, but they did not know how the subject obtained the complaint’s information.
