Cash Registers Stolen At Multiple Stores: Northbrook Police Blotter

The burglars activated security alarms during the overnight incidents, but were able to flee the crime scenes before police arrived.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Flavio Medina Ortiz, of Northfield, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Dec. 31, at Willow Road and Westleigh Drive. A court date of Jan. 30 was assigned.
  • Richard L. Denizov, of Glenview, is accused of driving under the influence (zero tolerance), speeding (42 mph in a 35 mph zone), illegal transportation of alcohol, and was arrested at 2:38 a.m. Jan. 1, in the 1300 block of Shermer Road. A court date of Jan. 25 was assigned.

RETAIL THEFT

Diminnieon O. Martin, of North Chicago, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 11:43 a.m Dec. 31, at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road. The loss prevention staff saw Martin steal a pair of blue jeans. A court date of Jan. 30 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention staff at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 3:47 p.m. Dec. 29, two females and one male took designer purses and attempted to flee the store without paying for them. One of the subjects attempted to punch the loss prevention employee when they were stopped. Another loss prevention employee was pushed and threatened by another one of the offenders. They fled the scene in a gray Mazda CX5.
  • The manager of a retail store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 2:55 p.m. Jan. 3, two men stole a pair of Nike Air Force 1 shoes. The subjects fled the area in a black sport utility vehicle.

FLEE OR ELUDE

Police observed a stolen 2017 white Hyundai Santa Fe while patrolling the area at 2:58 a.m. Dec. 30, at Voltz and Waukegan roads. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed out of Northbrook.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

  • While officers were checking the area for a stolen vehicle at 2:06 a.m. Dec. 30, they noticed a 2015 white Jeep Cherokee with its driver's side door open in the 1500 block of Woodview Lane. They stopped and spoke with the homeowner. It was confirmed that someone had opened the vehicle and rummaged through the contents.
  • A resident in the 1400 block of Orchard Lane called police at 7:13 a.m. Dec. 30, to report someone had entered his 2015 white Lexus RX. The subject rummaged through the contents of the vehicle, but nothing of value was taken.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1700 block of Illinois Road reported at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 30, someone had entered her 2018 gray Audi Q5 and took a purse containing money and a phone charger.

FORGERY

The staff at a pharmacy in the 2700 block of Dundee Road reported at 2:33 p.m. Dec. 30, a man had dropped off a prescription for hydrocodone that was found to be a forged. The subject never returned for the illegal prescription.

BURGLARY TO BUSINESS

  • Police responded to a business in the 2700 block of Dundee Road at 2:43 a.m. Jan. 2, because the burglar alarm had been activated. Upon arrival, officers found the front door had been shattered. The cash register was taken, but the staff said it did not contain any cash.
  • The staff of a business in the 800 block of Waukegan Road received a call at 2:43 a.m. Jan. 2, from their alarm company indicating their burglar alarm had been activated. Once the staff arrived at the business, they found the front window had been smashed and the cash register was missing. The cash register did not contain any money. While investigating, the employees and officers noticed two other businesses in that block had been broken into as well. Only a small amount of money was found missing from one of the other businesses.

FLEE OR ELUDE

Police observed a black sedan driving erratically while in the area of a recent burglary to a business at 2:39 a.m. Jan. 2 at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but it sped away at a high rate of speed.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

The owner of a retail store in the 1900 block of Techny Road called police at 1:43 p.m. Jan. 4, to report a man purchased a concrete saw using a personal check. When the store’s bank notified him that the check was fraudulent, the owner contacted the person listed on the check. That person said his bank account had been compromised. The subject listed on the fraudulent check did not match the description of the subject that illegally purchased the saw.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Brentwood Road resident reported at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 4, he had received an alert on his credit report that someone opened three credit cards in his name utilizing his social security number. After he contacted the credit card companies to cancel his credit, he was informed that there was activity on another credit card he already had in his possession. He contacted the credit bureaus and froze his credit.
