Check Scam, 'Suspicious Vehicle' Driver DUI; Drug Arrest: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

COUNTERFEIT CASH
An employee at the Starbucks, 243 Skokie Lane, reported around 4 p.m. on March 9 that a $50 bill was found at the end of a shift and it was not known when it had been used.

CHECK SCAM
A Crabtree Lane resident reported on the afternoon of March 9 that someone had scammed them out of an unspecified amount by providing a bad check with an amount greater than the sale price of an item the resident was offering and requesting an electronic transfer of the difference in return.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 2500 block of Oak Avenue reported hearing their car alarm activate between 2 and 3 a.m. on March 10. When the resident went outside to check on the car, they found it had some minor damage.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Canterbury Drive resident reported on the night of March 10 that they noticed that several unauthorized charges had been made to one of their credit accounts.
  • A Michelline Lane resident reported on the evening of March 12 that they had been notified that someone had tried to open five cellular accounts using their identity.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a cell phone from an unlocked car parked in the 100 block of Pointe Drive, police were told around 3 p.m. on March 11.

FRAUD
A representative of a business in the 2800 block of Dundee Road reported on the morning of March 12 that a customer had contacted them and claimed to have gotten a bill with four unauthorized charges.

BAD CHECKS
A representative of a business in the 1400 block of Techny Road reported around 10 a.m. on March 13 that someone told them three fraudulent checks had been issued from a business account but the checks were not cased by the business' bank.

ARRESTS

Jorge Garcia Luna, 41, of the 400 block of 4th Street, Northfield, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. on March 7 and charged with driving under the influence in the area of Shermer and Waukegan roads. Police said they got a call about a "suspicious vehicle," found Garcia Luna in a vehicle matching the description and thought that he was impaired for unspecified reasons.

A 37-year-old Grayslake woman was arrested at 8:06 p.m. on March 8 and charged with driving with a revoked license and without insurance following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard. She was also issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left.

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 10:52 p.m. on March 9 in the area of Willow and Waukegan roads and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer on routine patrol checked the registered owner of his vehicle and learned his license was suspended. The officer pulled the car over, learned the registered owner was driving and arrested him.

Sean Gunderson, 24, of the 2000 block of West Armitage Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on March 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more following a traffic stop in the area of Willow Road and Interstate 294. He was also issued a citation for a lane violation.

George Shiba, 36, of the 9500 block of Park Lane, Des Plaines, and [Name Removed], 36, of the 200 block of Wolf Road, Wheeling, were arrested around 2 a.m. on March 12 in the area of Pfingsten and Dundee roads after an officer pulled over a vehicle Shiba was driving. Shiba was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and issued a lane violation citation. [Name Removed] was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police reported finding a white powdery substance on him during a search.
