Chemical Kills Grass, Shapes Foul Language: Northbrook Police Blotter

The resident said the chemical was used on grass in his front yard, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Christy Rivera, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 12:35 a.m. July 15, in the 800 block of Midway Road. Police responded to the area following a report of an automobile crash. Police discovered that a vehicle, driven by Rivera, had crashed into several parked vehicles.
  • Mary Elizabeth Reckamp, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, and was arrested at 3:36 p.m. July 17, following a car crash with injuries in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road. She was given a court date of Aug. 17.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Jilson Sanal, of Glenview, is accused of driving on a suspended license, speeding, and was arrested at 11:10 p.m. July 19, at Dundee Road and Charlemagne Drive. A court date of Aug. 4 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

FORGERY

A Walters Avenue resident reported on July 8 someone forged a check that was a slightly different format of the complainant’s real checks. The unknown person cashed the fraudulent check in the amount of $22,210.36. The complainant did not recognize the payee’s name.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • A person called police at 7:45 p.m. July 15, to report someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole cash from an envelope that was left inside in the 3000 block of Dundee Road. The complainant did not notice the money missing until she returned home.
  • A resident in the 2800 block of Dundee Road called police at 12:24 p.m. July 17, to report someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked overnight.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • The staff of the Northbrook Park District noticed at 9:10 p.m. July 15, several people gathering on their property in the 1700 block of Techny Road. After the people left the area, the staff noticed the bathrooms, trash cans, and a first aid station were damaged.
  • A resident in the 1700 block of Fieldwood Drive reported at 8:36 a.m. July 17, someone damaged his mailbox overnight.
  • A resident in the 3800 block of Greenacre Drive called police at 7:37 p.m. July 19, to report someone used a chemical to kill his front yard grass in the shape of foul language lettering.

VANDALISM

  • A person reported at 7:27 p.m. July 17, there was offensive language written in chalk on a walkway in the 1800 block of Walters Avenue. When officers arrived, no one was seen in the area. The offensive language was rinsed away.
  • During patrol at 8:43 p.m. July 17, a police officer noticed someone had poured a soap-like substance in a public fountain in the 1800 block of Walters Avenue. Evidence was collected and staff were notified of the vandalism.
