“Chicago’s Sweet History”
Covenant Village of Northbrook hosts Leslie Goddard for a discussion about her book, "Chicago's Sweet Candy History"
Self-described as the Candy Capital of America, Chicago produced about one-third of the nation’s candy for most of its history. Discover the how and why when Covenant Village of Northbrook hosts historical interpreter and author Leslie Goddard for a discussion about her book, “Chicago’s Sweet Candy History,” on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Covenant Village of Northbrook is located at 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook, Ill.
Goddard will reveal the reasons why Chicago was such a powerful location for candy makers. She will share candy memorabilia and describe the history behind some of the tasty treats invented in Chicago — Brach's caramels, Mars’ Snickers bars, Wrigley's gum, Cracker Jack, Curtiss’ Baby Ruth bars, Tootsie Rolls, Frango Mints and Dove chocolates.
Presenting history lectures and performing first-person programs for more than 10 years, Goddard has a Ph.D. in American studies and U.S. history from Northwestern University as well as master's degrees in theater and museum studies. She worked in the museum field for ten years and is the author of two books on Chicago history.
