Christmas Eve Air Horn Arrest; DUI On Grass: Northbrook Crimes

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest does not mean a person is guilty, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

BURGLARY/HOME INVASION

A resident of the 1900 block of Somerset Lane reported to police on Dec. 21 at 5:47 p.m. that that man who appeared to be in his 20s knocked on the door and claimed there to check about a water leak. The resident told police the man pushed his way into the home after being told they could not come in. A second suspect entered the house while the first man kept the resident occupied. There was about $100 in cash and various items of jewelry later found to be stolen from upstairs.

RETAIL THEFT

A man put unknown items from the REI in the 800 block of Willow Road into a backpack and left without paying for them, police were told, shortly before 1 p.m. on Dec. 24.

RETAIL THEFT

A man walked out of an AT&T store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road with an iPhone X without paying for around 5:18 p.m. on Dec. 24, police were told.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone tried to open two credit cards using the information of a resident of the 1300 block of Christina Lane, police were told shortly after 2 pm. on Dec. 26.

THEFT

Someone stole a purse from a shopper in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, police were told.

ATTEMPTED COUNTERFEIT

A woman reportedly tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at a Goodwill store in the 4100 block of Dundee Road, leaving after it was refused.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Renee L. Nowak, 31, of the 5800 block of North Rockwell Street, Chicago, was arrested at 6:14 p.m. on Dec. 21 on a warrant for an unspecified offense issued by the Mount Prospect Police Department after an officer pulled her over for a traffic offense near the intersection of Dundee and Sanders roads.

Lauren Rice, 31, of the 900 block of North Wolcott Ave, Chicago, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Dec. 21 and charged with drunk driving and obstructing police. Police received a call about a car parked on the grass near Longvalley Drive and Landwehr Road with a person sitting on the ground. Officers located Rice, the owner of the vehicle, "seated in the grass near the vehicle." Police said she did not comply with their directions and determined she was intoxicated.

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 6:11 p.m. on Dec. 22 in the 1200 block of Landwehr Road and charged with driving while his license was suspended, without insurance or valid registration.

A 52-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested at 10:23 p.m. on Dec. 22 near the intersection of Dundee and Sanders roads and charged with driving with a suspended license after police pulled her over for driving without headlights. She was ticked for driving without lights when required and released after posting bond.

Jose F. Patino, 25, of the 300 block of East Wayne Place, Wheeling, was arrested at 3:06 a.m. on Dec. 23 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Charlemagne Drive and charged with driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol and violating the median. Police said they saw him commit a traffic offense and determined he was intoxicated after encountering him.

A 27-year-old Prospect Heights man was arrested at 6:49 p.m. on Dec. 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license near the intersection of Shermer Road and Thornapple Lane. He was also ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.

A 43-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 12:32 a.m. on Dec. 24 near the intersection of Willow and Shermer roads and charged with driving with a revoked license, no insurance and no rear registration lighting.

A 19-year-old Northbrook man was arrested at 2:52 a.m. on Dec. 24 near the intersection of Willow and Old Willow Road and charged under the zero tolerance law after police said they witnessed him commit a traffic offense and determined he was "driving after drinking." He was also ticketed for driving without insurance and speeding.

A 20-year-old Evanston man was arrested at 11:33 a.m. on Dec. 24 near the intersection of Voltz and Happ roads and charged with driving on a suspended license. An officer showed up at the scene of a traffic crash and leaded one of the drivers had a suspended license. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A 43-year-old Northbrook woman was arrested at 10:53 p.m. on Dec. 24 and charged with several offenses after police witnessed her "travelling at a high rate of speed and using what sounded like a siren and air horn." Police pulled over her vehicle near the intersection of Dundee and Waukegan roads, located a siren and air horn "on the vehicle" and determined the woman was not "authorized" to be using them while driving.
