Phony Neighbor's Chat Distracts During Burglary: Northbrook Crime

Northbrook Police Blotter: Dec. 15 - Dec. 21

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest does not mean a person is guilty, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone made an unauthorized purchase at a New York jewelry store using the credit card information of a resident of the 2000 block of Mallard Drive, police were told on Dec. 15.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 2600 block of Appletree Lane reported on Dec. 15 that someone had gotten gained access to an AT&T account and placed an order to buy two iPhones.

THEFT
A patron at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported shortly before 6 p.m. on Dec. 15 that someone stole a wallet out of a purse that had been left on the back of a chair during dinner.

HOME BURGLARY (RUSE)
A resident of the 600 block of Helen Drive reported at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 17 that they witnessed two vehicles slowly drive by his house as he were cleaning gutters outside. A short time later, a man, appearing to be in his 30s with dark hair, came up to the resident and claimed to be "the new neighbor behind his house." They reportedly had a 20 minute conversation about trees in the backyard and other things. After the purported neighbor left, the resident noticed that someone had rummaged through a closet and two bedrooms in the house. Three jars of coins and an unknown amount of jewelry were reported stolen.

THEFT
A resident in the 2500 block of Cobblewood Drive reported that someone stole a yellow sign reading, "Slow" with a roughly $40 value during the overnight hours of Dec. 16-17.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone entered a parked trailer in the 3100 block of Doolittle Drive and stole various items between Dec. 15-18, police were told.

FRAUD
Someone issued a fraudulent check from the account of a business in the 3100 block of Dundee Road between Nov. 29 and Dec. 19. Police did not specify the amount of reported loss.

THEFT
Three women or girls stole three pairs of Ugg brand books from the Nordstroms in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard around 2:21 p.m. on Dec. 21. They were scene leaving the scene in a vehicle. Police did not provide a description of the suspects or their vehicle.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 35-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the 2300 block of Capital Drive in Glenview and charged with aggravated driving with a suspended license, as well as not having insurance and improperly displaying license plates. An officer on patrol noticed he had no plates on a vehicle, pulled him over and learned his license had been revoked.

A 19-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 9:31 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the 900 block of Sunset Ridge Road and charged with driving with a suspended registration. Police said they noticed his vehicle in traffic, checked its plates and determined they were suspended.

Kimberly A. Ross, 53, of the 900 block of Happ Road, Northfield, was arrested at 9:42 p.m. on Dec. 15 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. An officer on patrol noticed her commit a traffic offense, pulled her over and witnessed "what was believed to be contraband in plain view." The officer searched the car and located "several" controlled substances. Ross was also ticketed for improper lane usage.

James R. Baker, 52, of the 0-100 block of East High Point Road in Stuart, Florida was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 20 near the intersection of Landwehr Road and Cherry Lane and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08. An officer on patrol noticed him commit a traffic offense, pulled him over and determined he was intoxicated. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to signal.

A 19-year-old Waukegan man was arrested at 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 20 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Anthony Trail and charged with driving on a suspended license. An officer on patrol pulled him over for a traffic offense and learned his license was suspended. He was also ticketed for a cell phone violation.

Christina Kim Mann, 40, of the 1000 block of Bob-O-Link Road in Highland Park, was arrested at 8:39 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Northbrook Court Nieman Marcus in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road after a staff member reported she was shoplifting. Police said about $70 worth of stolen merchandise was found on her person, along with a white powdery substance. She was arrested on an outstanding Northbrook arrest warrant, charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance.
