Cocaine Found In Pulled Over Car: Northbrook PD Blotter

The driver and passenger of the car were both arrested following a traffic stop for not signaling to turn, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • Diego A. Herrera, of Naperville, is accused of having an expired registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:27 p.m. April 19, at Old Willow and Willow roads. A court date of May 24 was assigned.
  • Montserrat Alvarado, of Chicago, is accused of having an suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:22 a.m. April 23, at Willow and Waukegan roads. A court date of May 8 was assigned.

  • Sung Bine Cho, of Northbrook, is accused of improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving under the influence, and was arrested at 4:33 a.m. April 20, in the 2200 block of Pfingsten Road. A court date of May 21 was assigned.
  • Ana K. Neri-Sanchez, of Wheeling, had two active warrants out of Cook County for driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 3:04 a.m. April 21, at Dundee and Portwine roads. She was taken into custody and brough to Cook County court.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

  • Salsabeel M. Alwan, of Oak Lawn, is accused of speeding (68 mph in a 40 mph zone), having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:12 a.m. April 20, in the 3500 block of Dundee Road. A court date of May 20 was assigned.
  • Enmanuel A. Granda Sanchez, of Wheeling, is accused of having a suspended registration, improper use of registration, failure to carry driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 8:19 p.m. April 23, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. A court date of May 8 was assigned.
  • Jaime R. Toaquiza Vega, of Chicago, is accused of speeding (55 mph in a 40 mph zone), suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:10 a.m. April 25, at Willow Road and Three Lakes Drive. A court date of May 24 was assigned.

DRUG POSSESSION

Police pulled over a car for making a turn without using its turn signal at 8:16 p.m. April 21, in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road. The driver, Jonathan M. Cain, of Alsip, reportedly told police his name was David Cain, but a subsequent investigation showed that was not true. Cain had a revoked driver's license, and was also charged with failure to use turn signal, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, obstructing identification. As police searched the car, they found a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. The cocaine reportedly belonged to a passenger in the car, Brittany A. Buar, of Alsip. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

INCIDENTS

PHONE SCAM

A Landwehr Road resident reported at 1:03 p.m. April 19, they had received a phone call from someone claiming to be an attorney. He advised the complainant that his son-in-law was in custody at the Northbrook Police Department, and they needed $15,000 to get the complainant's son-in-law out of jail. The complainant wasn't supposed to tell anyone, otherwise it could jeopardize the case. The complainant went to his bank and tried to withdraw the money. The bank staff cautioned the complainant, but the complainant was insistent that he needed the money. They allowed him to take $5,000 out of the account. The complainant traveled to the police department, instead of calling the attorney back. The officers explained to the complainant that it was a scam and not to call the person back. The officers tried calling the person, but he quickly hung up.

THEFT

  • A customer at a clothing store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 3:33 p.m. April 19, to report while shopping at a clothing store, she kept her purse in the shopping cart. A female approached her and asked how a dress looked on her. The complainant said the conversation was only five minutes. After the female walked away, the complainant walked to the register to pay. That is when she realized her wallet was missing from the purse. She believed a second person must have taken it when she was distracted. The female unlawfully attempted to purchase goods at a local computer store and clothing store for over $3,500 with the stolen credit cards.
  • A Gregg Road resident called police at 9:22 a.m. April 20, to report he had mailed a check to his dentist in the amount of $2,400. The dentist told the complainant they never received the payment. After checking his account, the complainant noticed the check had been intercepted through the mail and the offender deposited it into another bank account.
  • A person reported at 10:40 a.m. April 22, they had placed their personal belongings in an unlocked locker at a fitness facility in the 1100 bloc of Skokie Boulevard while they worked out. When they returned to the locker, the items were gone. The complainant said someone took his wallet, car key, Air pod case and sunglasses.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police responded to a home in the 800 block of Pony Lane at 8:27 p.m. April 20, for a burglar alarm. Once they arrived, they found the front door open with fresh pry marks near the lock. The officers searched the interior of the residence, but found no one inside. The bedroom showed obvious signs of a burglary. The homeowner was out of town, but a family member said over $20,000 of jewelry was taken.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention staff at a clothing store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 10:16 a.m. April 21, two males had come in and walked to the men’s clothing area. One grabbed a men’s shirt and concealed it inside his jacket. The other grabbed various clothing and both walked outside the store without paying for them.
  • The loss prevention staff of a clothing store at a 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 6:30 p.m. April 24, said three females were recorded on the surveillance cameras stealing clothing. The females concealed several jeans, t-shirts and hoodies, totaling $1,648, in their bags that they brought into the store. The females walked out with the stolen merchandise without paying.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Seville Circle resident reported at 12:55 p.m. April 21, they had received a suspicious phone call from two people claiming to work for his banking institution. The two said that there had been some fraudulent activity on his credit card, and they needed him to verify the account information. The complainant became nervous while speaking to them, so he hung up the phone and called his bank. The bank employee said someone fraudulently attempted to do a $12,000 purchase, sot hey froze his credit card.
  • An Enfield Drive resident reported at 8:34 a.m. April 24, someone had fraudulently used his name and information to rent an apartment in Chicago. The complainant was informed of this crime when he noticed a sudden drop in his credit score and a collection agency requesting back rent payment.

BURGLARIES TO VEHICLES

  • Two complainants called police at 10:40 a.m. April 22, to report someone had smashed the windows to their cars and took their purses, which were originally placed on the front seat, while they worked out at a fitness facility in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Both purses contained their identification and credit cards.
  • Police responded at 9:22 p.m April 24, to several car burglaries in a parking lot of a restaurant in the 600 block of Skokie Boulevard. Someone had smashed the windows to the cars and stole legal documents, computer equipment and keys from inside.

STOLEN VEHICLE

The general manager of a car dealership in the 1500 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at noon April 16, someone had stolen a 2021 GMC Denali 1500 pickup from the dealership lot. Another vehicle had its rear window smashed, but nothing was taken.

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police attempted to stop a 2013 grey Infiniti for a minor traffic violation at 7:24 p.m. April 23, at Pfingsten Road and Cherry Lane. The driver of the vehicle had accelerated to elude the officer. After the vehicle sped through a red light, the officer stopped and radioed other officers about the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle was last seen traveling south out of Northbrook at a high rate of speed.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A Northbrook Park District employee reported at 9:32 a.m. April 24, someone had smashed 33 blocks of decorative bricks from a retaining wall at one of their facilities in the 1500 block of Maple Avenue.

THEFT OF SERVICES

The manager of a restaurant in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 9:40 p.m. April 24, two people had ordered more than $200 worth of food. After the pair finished their meal, they fled the restaurant without paying. They were seen fleeing in a grey Chevrolet.
