Commission Critical of Life Time Fitness Project

Northbrook plan commissioners had plenty to critique about initial plans for a mixed-use development that would include a Life Time Fitness, child care center and 300+ unit apartment building at 1000 Skokie Boulevard during a recent discussion.

Talks between Life Time Fitness and child care company Children’s Learning Adventure have taken place regarding the possibility of the child care facility serving as the middle component between the fitness center and a 338-unit Finger Companies apartment building, according to the Northbrook Star.

But plan commissioners weren’t too excited about the possibility, which some would see as a better idea than the WalMart that had been proposed for the site somewhat recently.

“You’re requesting a mixed-use project that has no synergy,” Commissioner Norm Jacobs said.

Others on the commission shared Jacobs’ concerns, with one comment being made that the project looks “like three unrelated uses that just happen to be next to each other.”

For the project to become a reality, the commission would need to recommend approval to the Northbrook Village Board, who would then need to approve the project themselves.
