Crusader Team Challenge Celebrates 10th Anniversary

On Friday, September 29, St. Norbert School celebrates the tenth anniversary of its Crusader Team Challenge event. Started by a group of creative parents in 2013, the event has been going strong for a decade now and raised much-needed funds for the school’s high-quality, faith-based education programs.

Just what is Crusader Team Challenge? All students are put into different teams made up of K-8 students, and compete in fun team-building challenges. Over the years, the challenges have included working together to pull a full-sized pickup truck across the school parking lot, a human hamster wheel race, and scoring goals in a giant foosball game. Students take the lead in naming teams and sharing the responsibility of running the teams. Teams have also competed to “out-give” each other in support of the parish food ministry to the hungry, and much more.

When the competitions wrap, teams join their families for a fundraising dinner and ceremony to crown the teams who displayed the best cooperation among their members of all ages and abilities, as well as the team that scored the most points. One oft-cited favorite part of the day is seeing how younger kids and older kids partner together to accomplish the teams’ goal.

“It’s events like this where you feel the ‘small school strength’ and culture shine especially brightly,” said Jenny Pomar, CTC 2023 chair. “It’s also an especially great way for the dozens of new families this year to get better acquainted with our community.”
