Customer Pushes Employee For Not Doing Discount: Northbrook PD Blotter

The customer pushed the staff member, which caused him to fall backward and hit his head, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON

Sergio L. Diaz, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal transportation of cannabis, and was arrested at 3:42 p.m. Feb. 17, at Dundee and Midway roads. Police stopped Diaz as he was driving with suspended license plates. During the stop, they found two containers of open cannabis and an open bottle of Cognac inside. While retrieving the illegal items, the officer also found illegal metal knuckles with an attached knife blade. A court date of March 25 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police responded to the area of Shermer and Willow roads at 3:18 p.m. Feb. 17, as a wanted vehicle was seen being driven there. The vehicle, a black Buick Encore with stolen license plates, was wanted for fleeing and eluding officers in other jurisdictions. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle after the vehicle accelerated to 55mph in a 25 mph zone. The vehicle fled the area and was last seen westbound on Dundee Road.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 2300 block of White Oak reported at 6:34 p.m. Feb. 17, she had purchased a bracelet online and requested it to be delivered to her home. When the private shipping company arrived with the package, the complainant signed for the package. Yet, even though the package was not opened, the bracelet was missing from inside.
  • A shopper at a grocery store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 6:33 p.m. Feb. 20, someone stole the wallet out of her purse. Minutes later, her stolen credit card was used to make a fraudulent purchase at an electronic store without her knowledge.

BATTERY

Staff members of a retail clothing store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported a battery at 4:15 p.m. Feb. 19. The staff told police they were assisting a customer with an order. During the conversation, the customer became irate when the staff member couldn’t apply a discount to the purchase. The customer pushed the staff member, which caused him to fall backward and hit his head. The customer left the store, prior to the police being called.

FORGERY

  • A teller at a bank in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road reported at 12:13 p.m. Feb. 20, that two subjects attempted to cash a $52,000 check in the drive-up lane. The staff noticed the check was a forgery and waited until police arrived. The two subjects fled the area in a black Hyundai at a high rate of speed when the police officer pulled up behind them.
  • The teller at a bank in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road called police at 3:51 p.m. Feb. 21, to report a subject came into the bank to cash a check in the amount of $2,481. The staff looked up the account, which did not have enough money to cover the amount. The check was signed twice and in different ink, which made the staff become suspicious. When they asked the subject for identification, the subject refused and walked out of the bank. It was later determined the check was a fake.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

A staff member of the Northbrook Park District reported at 8:26 a.m. Feb. 22, they had noticed graffiti in several areas throughout the park in the 1700 block of Techny Road. The graffiti consisted of lettering in black or white paint.
