Customer Uses Bathroom Then Steals Cash: Northbrook Police Blotter

The customer went to a backroom and stole cash from a manager's desk, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Ryan P. Hutchinson, of Bloomingdale, is accused of aggravated driving under the influence, failure to give right of way, illegal transportation of cannabis, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to give aid at an automobile crash, leaving the scene of an injury crash, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:01 p.m. Dec. 17, at Dundee and Sanders roads. The officers responded to an auto crash. Once they arrived, the victim of the accident said a gray truck hit her vehicle and fled from the scene. The other responding officers found the gray truck fleeing from the scene. The officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Hutchinson. Hutchinson appeared to be intoxicated and was transported to the hospital per his request. A court date had not been set at the time of the report.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

A Glenview man was cited for driving with suspended license plates at 9:43 a.m. Dec. 22, at Pfingsten Road and Manor Drive. A court date of Jan. 25, 2023, was assigned.

INCIDENTS

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • An employee of a business in the 500 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 6:22 p.m. Dec. 15, someone stole the catalytic converter from her 2013 Kia Sportage while it was parked in the rear parking lot of her workplace.
  • An employee of a business in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue called police at 6:41 p.m. Dec. 15, to report someone stole the catalytic converter from her 2000 Lexus while it was parked at her workplace parking lot.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A citizen reported at 10:53 p.m. Dec. 15, their 2020 Lincoln Corsair was stolen while it was parked in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The complainant didn’t know if he left the key fob inside the vehicle.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention staff at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 2:48 p.m. Dec. 16, two women stole coats from their retail store and fled in a white Mercedes-Benz with tinted windows.
  • Security staff at a retail store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road called police at 2:27 p.m. Dec. 18, to report they had chased a subject that stole a shirt. Officers located the subject walking in the subdivision next to the store. They were charged with retail theft. A court date of Jan. 31, 2023, was assigned.
  • The staff at a store in the 800 block of Willow Road reported at 5:26 p.m. Dec. 21, a man loaded a shopping cart with multiple bottles of alcohol and walked out of the store without paying. They described the subject as wearing a black hat, black coat, and blue jeans.
  • The staff of a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 6:06 p.m. Dec. 21, to report two women placed numerous items into a shopping cart and fled the store without paying. The items included clothing, boots, purses and cologne.
  • The loss prevention staff at a retail store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 11:11 a.m. Dec. 22, that a woman stole three coats and fled the store.
  • The staff at a store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 2:09 p.m. Dec. 22, to report two women and a man entered the store and grabbed several winter boots. The subjects fled the store without paying. The subjects drove away in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle.

THEFT

  • A member of a fitness gym in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 1:39 p.m. Dec. 17, she left her purse in a locker. When she returned, the purse and its contents were stolen. She didn’t remember if she locked the locker.
  • The management of a retail store in the 2800 block of Dundee Road called police at 8:37 p.m. Dec. 22, to report someone asked to use the bathroom. After the subject exited the bathroom, he entered a back room of the store and stole cash from the manager’s desk. The management was unaware of this until the surveillance cameras were reviewed. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and gray shoes.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Medford Circle resident reported at 3:37 p.m. Dec. 22, someone accessed their bank account and transferred$60,000 to another account. They said the email associated with the account was changed as well.
