Daughter in Northbrook Family's Theft Ring Pleads Guilty

Julia Bogdanov will be sentenced in March for her part in an elaborate nationwide family crime spree

The daughter in a Northbrook family accused of pulling odd nationwide theft spree pleaded guilty to her part in the effort Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Julia Bogdanov could spend up to five years in prison for her part in the spree, which includes running interference at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Maryland while her parents, Brako and Lela Bogdanov stole as many as 10 mini-American Girl dolls - according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

In that alleged instance, the youngest Bogdanov told store personnel her mother had cancer while they were stealing the items.

In all, the Bogdanov family is alleged to have pulled of thefts at stores in Louisiana, Tennessee, Maryland, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas - fetching a total of $4.2 million on eBay. Investigators from eBay, Toys “R” Us and Barnes & Noble to identify the family, which led to a March 2014 arrest by the U.S. Secret Service. Nearly $75,000 in merchandise had been found in the family’s small Northbrook home.

The Bogdanov parents are expected to plead guilty in February.
