NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone scratched a car parked in the 400 block of Huehl Road at some point prior to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 9.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Three unlocked cars were burglarized in the 3500 block of Dauphine Avenue prior to 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 10. Nothing was reported missing.
  • Two cars were burglarized in the 3400 block of Tamarind Drive during the night of Aug. 9 to Aug 10. Nothing was reported missing.
  • Someone burglarized a car parked in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road at some point prior to about 3 p.m. on Aug. 11.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Dorset Drive reported on Aug. 10 that at some point on Aug. 8 or Aug. 9 someone stole sunglasses and headphone from a car that had been left unlocked.
  • Someone stole a Nike shoes and a vape pen from a car parked in the 1800 block of Lake Cook Road prior to about 9 p.m. on Aug. 12.
  • A resident in the 1800 block of Butternut Lane reported that someone got into their unlocked car during the night of Aug. 13 to Aug. 14. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • A Scott Road resident reported around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 that someone had entered their car during the previous night, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • A resident in the 1900 block of Penfold Place reported around 4 p.m. on Aug. 14 that someone had stolen a pair of sunglasses from their unlocked car during the previous night.
  • A resident in the 2100 block of Dehne Road reported around 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 that someone stole a radio about more than $10 in change from their possibly unlocked car.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Dunsten Circle reported that someone smashed a window of their parked car and stole a wallet and a bag with medication inside between noon on Aug. 12 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 13.

THEFT
Someone stole a bench from in front of a home in the 1600 block of Western Avenue on the night of Aug. 9 to Aug. 10.

COUNTERFEIT CASH

  • Staff at Tony and Bruno's at Northbrook Court reported around 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 that an unidentified man made a purchase using a counterfeit $100 bill.
  • Staff at Claire's at Northbrook Court reported around 6 p.m. on Aug. 10 that an unidentified woman made a purchase with a counterfeit $100 bill.

SCAMS

  • An Antique Lane resident reported on Aug. 9 that someone had offered them $100 above the listed price for something they were selling on eBay. The resident agreed and sent the item to Nigeria. eBay later notified them that the transaction had been fraudulent and would not be paid.
  • A Christina Lane resident reported on Aug. 14 that someone who claimed to be interested in purchasing an item offered for sale on Craigslist sent them a check for above the list price and asked for a cashier's check for the difference. The resident paid them the money and shipped the item.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident who left their wallet behind while shopping at Northbrook Court reported around 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 15 that they were later notified that a new account had been opened in their name and several unauthorized charges had been made on their existing accounts.

THEFT/FORGERY
Someone stole a black check from a checkbook in the 4200 block of Yorkshire Lane and cashed it using a forged signature prior to the afternoon of Aug. 15.

ARRESTS

A 23-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 and charged with driving without a license following an investigation into a traffic crash at Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road. He was also issued citations for not having insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Ricardo A. Torres Flores, 42, of the 300 block of Shay Court, Wheeling, was arrested in the area of Waukegan Road and Main Street on an active Cook County arrest warrant after an officer reporting seeing him speeding and pulled him over.

Stephen A. Lovelette, 29, of the 2000 block of Butternut Lane, Northbrook, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 and charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop on Willow Road and The Strand after police were given permission to search a car and found various narcotics. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.

A 45-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 13 and charged with driving with a suspended license and suspended registration following a traffic stop in the area of Shermer and Waukegan roads. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
