Drunken Driver Crashes Into Cars Behind Biz: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Matthew J. Acevedo, of Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence, and was arrested at 7:01 p.m. March 16, in the 1300 block of Shermer Road. Police responded to a non-injury auto crash behind a retail business. After speaking to the driver, Acevedo, and a witness, it was learned that he crashed into two parked vehicles. A court date is set for April 4.
  • John Summers, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence, driving with a defective tire, violating median on roadway, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, unlawful damage to roadway, operation of uninsured motor vehicles, and was arrested at 12:23 a.m. March 17, in the 3900 block of Dundee Road. Police saw a car driven by Summers with a shredded tire on the wheel. The vehicle made an improper turn and then swayed across the median of the road. A court date is set for April 4.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Martin Esho, of Lincolnwood, is accused of criminal damage to property, and was arrested at 1 p.m. March 17, in the 1400 block of Lee Road. A complainant said a vehicle drove onto his lawn, causing damage to the grass and sprinkler system. The police department utilized the area surveillance cameras to identify the vehicle, a 2007 red Toyota Prius. The officer contacted the driver of the vehicle, Esho. A court date is set for April 11.

INCIDENTS

COUNTERFEITING

An employee of a business in the 1500 block of Shermer Road reported at 2:16 p.m. March 17, a man came into the store to purchase a gift card. When the subject paid for the gift with cash, he paid in $20 bills. The employee noticed after the subject left that six of the bills were counterfeit.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE

A Farnsworth Lane resident called police at 9:36 p.m. March 17, to report he noticed some fraudulent activity on one of his money management apps. An unknown person withdrew $1,300 from the account without his permission.

THEFT

  • A citizen reported at 9:46 p.m. March 17, that he had dropped off his packaged cell phone at a shipping company in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard to return it to the manufacturer. When it arrived at the manufacturer, the package had been opened and the cell phone was missing.
  • A Picardy Drive resident reported at 11:24 p.m. March 17, her cell phone was stolen a few weeks ago. She recently found her phone for sale at a Walmart in central Illinois. The complainant is working with the police department to identify the subject that originally stole the cell phone.
  • A Prestbury Court resident called police at 7:50 p.m. March 21, to report someone accessed his computer remotely and instructed him to send $20,000 to a California address to resolve the issue. The complainant sent the money, but then reported it to the police. Northbrook police were able to stop the package from being delivered.
  • A Dundee Road resident reported at 11:23 a.m. March 22, she ordered a 14K yellow gold bracelet with diamonds through an online market site. When the shipping company advised her the package had arrived at their facility, she went there to retrieve it. When she arrived, she found the box was ripped and the bracelet was missing.
  • A resident in the 1600 block of Ferndale Avenue reported at 2:38 p.m. March 23, someone stole an iPhone out of the packaging after it was delivered to her house.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident in the 100 block of Fairview Lane reported at 12:52 p.m. March 18, an unknown vehicle had driven on to his lawn, causing damage to it. The officer spoke to several neighbors that had surveillance cameras. The offending vehicle appeared to be a white sport utility vehicle. The officer also found several other neighbors with damage to their lawns consistent with tire marks from the same vehicle.

RETAIL THEFT

The staff at a retail store in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 7:37 p.m. March 18, a man came into the store and placed numerous cosmetics into a bag and left without paying.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 1700 block of Sunnyside Circle called police at 11:22 p.m. March 18, to report someone broke into their house and stole a safe and jewelry from multiple bedrooms.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE

Police found an unoccupied stolen 1999 white Dodge Ram truck at 11:58 p.m. March 19, in a parking lot of a retail store in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road. The truck was stolen out of Chicago a few hours earlier. The owner was contacted.

FORGERY

A Brighton Court resident reported at 2:15 p.m. March 20, someone forged checks and cashed them without his mother’s authorization. The complainant is working with police to identify the subject.
