DUI Driver Calls Cops After Crash; Shoplifter Recognized: Blotter

Northbrook Police Blotter: June 29 - July 5

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Greenview Drive resident reported on the afternoon of June 29 that someone had gotten access to one of their accounts and place about $5,500 in unauthorized charges on the account.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A patron at Techny Prairie Park in the 1700 block of Techny Road reported at 8:11 p.m. on June 29 that someone had smashed a back window to their parked car and stolen a purse left on the floor behind the driver's seat for an unspecified loss. At 8:36 p.m. on the same night, another park patron reported that someone had stolen a wallet from a purse left on the front floorboard of an unlocked car.
  • Two residents in the 4200 block of Walters Avenue reported car break-ins at 5:44 p.m. on June 30. In one, someone stole a duffel bag, and in an other someone stole a purse. In both cases, back windows cars were smashed.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Walters Avenue resident reported on the afternoon of July 2 that they had been notified that someone had tried to use their personal information with the IRS. There was no loss reported.

RETAIL THEFT
Staff at a clothing store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported that at 4 p.m. on May 28 one man and two women made a $329 fraudulent return of items they had just picked up from the shelf.

THEFT
A patron at the AMC theater at Northbrook Court reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. on July 2 that someone had stolen their wallet while they were attending a movie.

RETAIL THEFT
Staff at a home improvement store in the 1000 block of Willow Road reported that two men stole six Dyson brand vacuum cleaners around 1 p.m. on June 22.

THEFT
A patron at the Corner Bakery in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 5:19 p.m. on July 3 that someone stole two wallets from a purse while at the Northbrook Court location.

THEFT
A resident of in the 2300 block of Greenview Drive reported at 9:28 a.m. on July 4 that someone had just stolen a marble flagpole base from their driveway about 15 minutes earlier. The resident reported seeing a suspicious older pickup truck headed north on Greenview.

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
A resident in the 3100 block of Donovan Glen Court reported at 11:03 a.m. on July 4 that they had been getting numerous harassing voicemails.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident 2700 block of Shannon Road reported on July 5 that someone had slashed the tires during the previous overnight hours.

CAR BURGLARIES
Two residents in the 3100 block of Donovan Glen Court and one resident in the 1400 block of Coral Lane reported on the morning of July 6 that someone had stolen unspecified items from inside their (possibly unlocked) vehicles.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jamie S. Crane-Madsen, 42, of the 1100 block of West Polk Street in Chicago, was arrested at 5:34 p.m. on June 28 at the Neiman Marcus at Northbrook Court and charged with felony retail theft. Staff told police they recognized her from a theft earlier in the week at the same location. Police were told she took a dress and a jacket valued at nearly $1,300 combined, put them into her bag and walked out of the store without paying.

Jacob Juvenal, 33, of the 300 block of Greenwood Road in Glenview, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. on June 28 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Landwehr Road and Moon Hill Drive and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police got a complaint about his driving and determined he was impaired. He was also issued citations for use of unsafe tires, no insurance and improper lane usage.

Suvd Narakhand, 24, of the 3100 block of Pheasant Creek in Northbrook, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. on July 1 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Landwehr Road and Cherry Lane and charged with felony driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called about an erratic driver.

Mario Gonzalez Garcia, 35, of the 200 block of Llewellyn Avenue in Highwood, was arrested at 6:28 p.m. on July 2 and charged with driving under the influence after police arrived at the scene of a traffic crash near the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard. He was also ticketed for illegal transportation of alcohol, no insurance, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving with a defective windshield.

An 18-year-old Skokie man was arrested at 12:46 a.m. on July 3 after he was pulled over for an unspecified traffic violation and arrested for cannabis possession after police noticed the smell of marijuana and searched the car. He was charged with possession of cannabis and ticketed for failure to signal and improper lane usage.

A 48-year-old Evanston man was arrested at 12:31 a.m. on July 4 after he was pulled over for an unspecified traffic violation near the intersection of Willow Road and Waterview Lane and found to have a suspended license. He was also issued citations for expired plates and not having insurance.

Kay S. Samotny, 67, of the 4100 block of Picardy Circle in Northbrook, was arrested at 3:53 p.m. on July 4 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more after she called police to report she had crashed into a pole with her vehicle. Police investigated and determined she was impaired. Samotny was also issued citations for no valid insurance and improper lane usage.

A 50-year-old Glenview man was arrested at 10:02 p.m. on July 5 near the intersection of Patriot Boulevard and Lehigh Road after he was pulled over for an unspecified traffic violation in Northbrook and found to be driving with a suspended license.
