Store Staffer Struck By Woman Trying To Steal Purses: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

FAKE MONEY
Staff at the Northbrook Court Nieman Marcus reported at 4:47 p.m. on June 21 that two men had bought an unspecified amount of clothes from the store using counterfeit $100 bills.

CAR BURGLARY
During the overnight hours of June 20 to 21, someone stole various items from inside an unlocked car parked in the 900 block of Surrey Lane.

THEFT
Someone stole wooden pallets from the back of the ACE Hardware in the 1900 block of Cherry Lane during the overnight hours of June 21 to 22.

THEFT
Someone stole a blue canopy from outside a home in the 2200 block of Walters Avenue, police were told on the evening of June 22.

ILLEGAL CREDIT CARD USE
An unidentified person made about $3,100 in unauthorized purchases from the Apple Store at Northbrook Court in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road, police were told around 1:16 p.m. on June 23.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Staff at the Lord & Taylor at Northbrook Court reported at 1:10 p.m. on June 23 that two women and a man tried unsuccessfully to cut the security wires on several handbags. One of the unidentified women struck an employee who confronted them in the face before all three fled the store without taking anything.

FRAUD
A Pheasant Creek Drive resident reported on the evening of June 23 that someone had made two unauthorized purchases using their account in Countryside.

ANTI-VIRUS GIFT CARD SCAM
A Killarney Lane resident reported an attempted scam at the police station on the afternoon of June 23. The resident told police they bought some anti-virus software via a pop-up advertisement in February. The resident was told that they were overcharged and due a refund. Because the "wrong amount" had purportedly been credited to pay them back, a caller told the resident they should buy $1,000 worth of gift cards. The resident refused and contacted their financial institutions before reporting the incident to police.

PACKAGE THEFT
A Gregg Road resident reported on the evening of June 27 that they returned home to discover a package had seemingly been stolen after being delivered.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the CVS in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 9:51 p.m. on June 27 that a man came into the store, put some items into a cart and then left without paying for them.

WALLET THEFT
A patron at a restaurant in the 1100 block of Willow Road reported at 11:04 a.m. on June 28 that someone stole their wallet.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 24-year-old Riverside man was arrested around 10:50 p.m. on June 22 and charged with driving with a suspended license after police noticed him using a cell phone while driving near the intersection of Willow and Landwehr roads. He was also ticketed for use of an electronic device.

A 32-year-old man from the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago was arrested around 8 p.m. on June 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop for an equipment violation. He was also issued a citation for improper display of registration.

A 22-year-old Hazel Crest man was arrested around 4:18 a.m. on June 28 and charged with driving with a suspended license after police pulled him over for a traffic violation. He was also issued citations for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to dim headlights.
