DUI Driver Crashes Into Squad Car At Northbrook Court: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a wallet containing cash, credit cards and identification from a locked locker in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard between 6 and 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 23.

FRAUD
A Valencia Drive resident reported they were scammed out of an unspecified amount of money by someone with whom they had developed a "long distance relationship." The scammer got the resident to wire money, purportedly to release property from U.S. Customs. After the resident sent the money and asked for documentation to verify the property was released, they learned they had been scammed.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone scratched the front door of a car parked in the first block of Skokie Boulevard between 2:30 and 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 26.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Nordstrom Rack, 199 Skokie Blvd., reported around 3 p.m. on Jan. 28 that three female shoplifters stole several winter jackets and fled in a vehicle. No further information was provided by police.

THEFT
A resident in the 1900 block of Summerton Place reported on someone stole the front license plate from their car on Jan. 29 to Jan. 30.

ARRESTS

Kimberly J. Lovett, 45, of the 1200 block of 12th Street, Northfield, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 and charged with driving under the influence in the 1700 block of Pfingsten Road. Police investigating a call about a car driving into oncoming traffic found Lovett and her car off the roadway and determined she was impaired.

Ron K. Kang, 35, of the 7800 block of North Nordica Avenue, Niles, was arrested around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 26 and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Frontage Road. He was also issued a no valid registration citation.

Sharon Gertz, 80, of the 800 block of Virginia Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 28 following a traffic crash with a Northbrook police squad car in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and issued a failure to yield to an emergency vehicle citation.

Isaiah Fredrick Blackburn, 25, of the 1000 block of Glendell Avenue, Lake Bluff, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Jan. 29 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Waukegan and Voltz roads. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, unsafe tires, violating the median and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

A 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 29 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Dundee Road. He was also issued a improper lighting citation for driving with one headlight.

Gregory J. Coleman, 28, of the 17100 block of Ashton Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Jan. 29 in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road on a Cook County warrant issued after he failed to appear in court. Officers investigating a call of a suspicious person in the parking lot of Northbrook Court found the warrant during a name check.

During a recent Super Bowl weekend enforcement campaign funded with a federal highway safety fund grant, Northbrook police issued three speeding citations, one distracted driving citation and two other, unspecified citations.

"Because of these efforts to crack down on impaired drivers and ensure more people buckle up, the streets were safer over Super Bowl weekend," Detective Chris Lacina said, in a statement announcing the results. "Keeping impaired drivers off the roads saves lives."
