Employee Makes Alarming Statements At Biz: Northbrook Police Blotter

Police spoke with the employee and cleared him to return to work the next day.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Valeria Munoz Nunez, of the 2000 block of West Jarvis Avenue, Chicago, is accused of having a suspended vehicle registration, an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of alcohol by a minor, and was arrested at 11:15 p.m. June 10, at Willow and Waukegan roads. They were released on a bond with a court date set for July 1. The defendant’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Gamalier Cruz, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, expired registration, a defective windshield, suspended driver's license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:22 p.m. June 15, at Willow and Shermer roads. He was released on bond with a court date set for July 1.

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident in the 1300 block of Adirondack Drive reported at 9:10 p.m. June 9, a suspicious, gray sport utility vehicle parked on their cul-de-sac every night. The officer noticed a gray Acura MDX. The driver advised officers that gas is too expensive to drive around at night, so he parks to enjoy the evening weather. The driver resides in a local subdivision and is new to the area. After the officer explained the complaint, the driver went on his way.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

  • Police were attempting to locate a male, in a red sweater, who was reported to be throwing objects at passing vehicles at 11:37 a.m. June 10, at Waukegan and Shermer roads. The officers located the person laying on the ground next to a knocked over trash container. The person said he was fine and refused medical attention. He did not show signs of impairment and there were no signs of any suspicious activity. He left the area.
  • A caller in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 10:30 a.m. June 11, to report a male was walking in traffic while yelling at passing cars. The male was located at the intersection of Skokie Road and Henrici Drive, talking to himself in a loud voice. The male advised officers he was in good health and was on a walk to clear his mind. The male contacted his father in order to take him home. An officer and therapy K-9 dog arrived at the scene shortly after for K-9 therapy services. The male stayed calm and focused until his father arrived to take home.
  • A facility manager of a business in the 1700 block of Pfingsten Road reported at 10:52 a.m. June 16, someone was seated in the bleachers of one of the sports arenas, making the coaches and children uncomfortable. The subject did not respond to staff and was not known to anyone in the facility. The investigating officers determined the subject drove for one of the local bus companies for the players and was taking advantage of the facility as a cooling center between trips. The subject advised he did not respond to staff because he didn’t realize they were staff members. The subject’s bus was parked in the north lot of the complex, and the complainant confirmed the facility’s status as a cooling center. The subject left shortly afterwards.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

An employee of a business in the 3500 block of Dundee Road reported that during the overnight hours of June 11, someone had cut the security cable to one of their golf carts and illegally drove it around the grounds of the establishment. The stolen golf cart was later recovered and abandoned on the grounds.

NEIGHBOR DISPUTE

  • A resident in the 2400 block of Brian Drive called police at 9:35 a.m. June 12, to report their neighbor attached a radio antenna to his tree without permission. The owner of the antenna was spoken to regarding the complaint. Both parties will contact their homeowner’s association for clarity regarding ownership of the property and trees.
  • A resident in the 3000 block of Pheasant Creek Drive reported at 1:47 p.m. June 12, he was working on his vehicle in his subdivision when he was confronted by a male driver. The other subject argued that the complainant was illegally working on his vehicle, violating the association rules. The complainant drove away, but was followed into the parking garage by the subject. The complainant told the officer that he would send a memo to the association board because they were familiar with the subject and his confrontations with other board members.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • Several catalytic converters were reported stolen at 7:22 a.m. June 13, from three Ford E-30 and one Ford E-450 vans in the 1800 block of Raymond Drive.
  • Several people reported at 4:24 p.m. June 13, their vehicle's catalytic converters were stolen from at least two vehicles in the 3300 block of Commercial Avenue.
  • Multiple vehicles in the 600 block of Anthony Trail had their catalytic converters stolen on June 13. A canvas yielded video footage that showed a possible suspect’s vehicle. The suspects on video appeared to be wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark-colored pants. The suspects utilized a saw to remove the parts from the vehicle.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 2:42 p.m. June 13, a retail theft that had occurred. The staff said two females and one male offender stole several Valentino handbags. One subject is described as a female, 5-foot-2, heavy set, with black braided hair, a black shirt and gray shorts. The second subject is described as a male, tall and skinny, wearing a black jacket, jeans, and a facemask. The witness could not describe the second female. The offenders fled in a gray-colored sedan.
  • The manager of a retail store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road called police at 6:06 p.m. June 14, to report there had been a disagreement between one of his employees and a customer over a power adapter. While the employee was speaking with the customer, the customer took the adapter belonging to the store and left. The officer contacted the customer and advised him that the store would like their power adapter back. The officer was present when the customer returned with the merchandise. The retail store did not wish to pursue the matter.

UNLAWFUL USE OF CREDIT CARD

A Midway Road resident called police at 10:09 a.m. June 14, to report she received an email from an online business stating that an unknown subject made two charges to her account. The complainant contacted the online business and advised them the charges were fraudulent. The online business cancelled the order. The fraudulent charges totaled $1,896.50.

THREAT

The security staff of a business in the 2500 block of Shermer Road contacted police at 6:24 p.m. June 14, to report an employee that made alarming statements toward the business. Officers contacted the employee at his residence. The employee indicated that he was only joking because he was upset with management regarding an earlier incident. After speaking with all parties, the security staff said the employee could to return to work the next work day.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Marshall Road resident called police at 4:34 p.m. June 16, to report she received two letters from two separate financial institutions asking for her personal information regarding a credit application. She also received a credit rejection letter from XBOX regarding a line of credit. The complainant stated that she never applied for either lines of credit. The complainant requested an identity theft packet so she could file the incident with the credit bureaus.
