Expert to present “Mindful Diet, Healthy Living” at Covenant Village of Northbrook

The brain works 24/7, monitoring our thoughts and our moods, controlling our heart rate, our breathing, and even our memory recall. It only makes sense to keep it in tip-top shape. Learn how when Kristen Gustashaw, MS, RDN, LDN, CSG, presents “Mindful Diet, Healthy Living,” on Thursday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Covenant Village of Northbrook, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community located at 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook.

Gustashaw is a certified specialist in gerontological nutrition at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She will explain how diet and lifestyle choices can help optimize brain health. She’ll focus on nutrition and how certain foods such as berries, nuts, and vegetables – ingredients used in the MIND diet – can enhance memory and cognition.

The MIND diet is a hybrid of the Mediterranean and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diets. Developed by a Rush University Medical Center nutritional epidemiologist and her colleagues, the MIND diet has shown to reduce the incidence of brain disease that increases a person’s risk in developing Alzheimer’s disease.
