NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

THEFTS

  • Someone stole a package from the front doorstep of a home in the 3000 block of Pheasant Creek Drive, a resident reported on the evening of July 18.
  • A resident reported at 6:30 p.m. on July 23 that someone had stolen their locked bicycle from a rack in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.
  • A resident reported around 9 p.m. on July 25 that someone shad stolen their longboard in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.
  • A resident reported around 7 p.m. on July 26 that someone had stolen their green mountain bike that had been left locked up outside the Metra station in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.
  • A patron at Lifetime Fitness reported that someone stole personal items and a $100 bill from inside a locked locker between 12:35 and 4 p.m. on July 31.

SUSPICIOUS KNOCK
A resident in the 2000 block of Plymouth Lane reported that someone knocked on their door between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. on July 18. The visitor said they were a representative of ComEd and the resident refused to open the door and reported the incident to police.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone scratched a car parked in the 1100 block of Techny Road, police were told at 11:45 a.m. on July 19.
  • Someone broke the driver's side window of a car parked in the 800 block of Sanders Road between 1 and 1:22 p.m. on July 19, police were told.
  • A resident in the 2600 block of Woodlawn Road reported around 8 p.m. on July 22 that someone punctured one of the tires on their car.

FRAUD

  • A Walters Road resident reported on the evening of July 19 that someone had used one of their credit cards without permission.
  • A Techny Road resident reported around 9 a.m. on July 31 that there was unauthorized activity on a credit account.

BAD CHECK
Staff at the Trader Joe's, 127 Skokie Boulevard, reported around 7:30 p.m. on July 20 that an unidentified woman had used a fraudulent check to purchase several items for an unspecified value.

SCAMS

  • Staff at Granite City Food and Brewery, 992 Willow Road, reported on the morning of July 22 that they had gotten a call from a person claiming to be an executive at the company. The purported boss asked the employee to buy several thousand dollars worth of gift cards from various locations and send them pictures of the cards. The staffer recognized it as a scam and reported it to police.
  • A resident of Fieldwood Drive reported on the morning of July 23 that someone had called them claiming that they had won a "large sum" of money. The caller told the resident the money would be delivered by an FBI agent, among others. The resident recognized the call as a scam and reported it to police.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 38-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on July 23 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop predicated on an equipment violation at the intersection of Dundee and Sanders roads. The driver was also issued a citation for "improper lighting."

A 22-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on July 28 and charged with driving with a suspended license after police were called to the area of Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard for a report of a person sleeping in a car. He was also issued citations for no insurance and parking improperly.

A 46-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 6:30 p.m. on July 30 and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer on routine patrol noticed a driver not wearing a seat belt.

A 24-year-old Wheeling man was arrested at 12:41 a.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop predicated by an equipment violation. He was also issued a citation for having an expired license plate registration.
