Out-Of-State Duo Charged With Home Burglary Attempt: Blotter
Prosecutors upgrade DUI to felony; detectives determine Northbrook man falsified billing information: Northbrook Police Blotter, July 13–19

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
FRAUD
Staff at the Best Buy, 1072 Willow Road, reported around 7 p.m. on July 11 that a woman bought a $2,800 laptop using a credit card. After that transaction was approved, she tried to make another purchase, picking out $2,000 worth of gift cards and several iPhones. But when the clerk asked her for identification, she refused and left all the items behind.
COMED SCAM
A Pheasant Creek Drive resident reported on July 12 that they got a call from someone purporting to be with Commonwealth Edison who demanded immediate payment for charges they said were past due. The resident did not provide any financial information and reported the phone call to police.

SHOPLIFTING
- A male shoplifter stole about 40 hair extensions from Sally Beauty Supply, 31 Skokie Blvd, police were told at 5:11 p.m. on July 12.
- Five female shoplifters stole about $500 worth of shoes and clothing from Northbrook Court Finish Line after asking to look at some footwear.
THEFT OF UNATTENDED PROPERTY
Someone stole a cell phone from a patron at Massage Envy, 840 Willow Road, police were told at 5:22 p.m. on July 13.

EMAIL SCAM
An employee in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported around 9 p.m. on July 15 that they purchased $1,000 worth of gift cards and provided their numbers to a scammer who sent an email purporting to come from the employee's supervisor.
VANDALISM
Someone used black spray paint on a piece of park equipment in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue prior to about 9:30 a.m. on July 16.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Diego Casallas, 29, of the 700 block of Coronado Street in Los Angeles, California, and Maurico Luna, 32, of the 5400 block of Grove Crossing in Orlando, Florida, were arrested together shortly after 4 p.m. on July 12 after officers were dispatched to the area of the 1900 block of Beaumont Place for a report of an attempted burglary. Police reported the two men matched the description provided by a caller who said two men had walked up to their home and tried to break in. Casallas was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. Luna was charged with two counts of possession of fraudulent identification.
Micheal J. Murray, 26, of the 2600 block of West Foster Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on July 13 in the area of Dundee and Portwine roads and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police reported noticing a car commit a traffic violation, pulled it over and smelled recently smoked marijuana. Officers reported finding various unspecified controlled substances and paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Gordon C. Cormack, of the 11400 block of West Richard Place, Beach Park, turned himself in to the Northbrook Police Department on July 15 after prosecutors upgraded misdemeanor DUI charges from his April 5 arrest to aggravated DUI, a felony, due to his previous convictions. Police reported he was at fault in a crash, didn't have insurance and was illegally transporting an open container of alcohol at the time.
Dwayne Dunn, 25, of the 7500 block of South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, turned himself in to the Northbrook Police Department on July 15 in connection with a charge of retail theft connected to a July 3 incident where someone reportedly stole $900 worth of shoes from the Neiman Marcus at Northbrook Court.
Zvanko Dobobrov, 54, of the 500 block of Voltz Road, Northbrook, was arrested on July 16 in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road and charged with theft of labor or services after detectives investigating a June 21 theft report determined he provided false billing information for $365 worth of medical services.
