Fake Water Pressure Check Turns Into Home Burglary: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY

  • Several tools were stolen from a trailer parked in the 3100 block of Elder Court at some point prior to 8:30 a.m. on June 14.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked trailer parked in the 2700 block of Royal Drive and stole several items from inside sometime prior to 10:30 a.m. on June 17.
  • Several items were stolen from the storage area of a truck parked in the 3100 block of Floral Drive at some point prior to 3 p.m. on June 17.
  • A tool was reported stolen from a trailer parked in the 2200 block of Illinois Road prior to 11:30 a.m. on June 18.

VANDALISM

  • Various items in the Village Green park in the 1800 block of Walters Avenue were spray painted at some point between 7:30 a.m. on June 14 and 7 a.m. on June 15.
  • Someone spray painted the baseball dugouts at Meadowhill Park in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue between 7 a.m. June 14 and 7 a.m. June 15.
  • Paint was discovered on the gazebo at Meadowhill Park around 8 a.m. on June 22.
  • Spray paint was discovered on a building in Village Green Park on the morning of June 22.
  • Someone spray-painted several pieces of equipment at Meadowhill Park between June 21 and June 23.
  • Graffiti was found on June 25 on a building and athletic field in the 2300 block of Shermer Road, on the gazebo at Village Green Park and in the 1700 block of Techny Road on a concrete barrier and at the skate park.

CHECK FRAUD
A Willow Road resident reported on the morning of June 19 that their bank notified them that several apparently fraudulent checks had been written from their account. The resident confirmed they had not written the checks.

RUSE HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 600 block of Ballantrae Drive reported around 4:45 p.m. on June 20 that someone had knocked on their back door claiming they needed to check the water pressure. After the resident allowed the person into their house, another person entered the home and stole various pieces of personal property. Police did not disclose any descriptions of the burglars or any vehicle.

BURGLARY
Police responding to a burglar alarm in the 2700 block of Dundee Road found that someone had gotten in through a back door. A search of the interior found "items were disturbed." No further information was disclosed.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Northbrook Court Neiman Marcus reported around noon on June 22 that a woman or girl stole a dress and belt from the store. Police did not provide a description of the thief.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 3000 block of Highland Drive reported around 7:15 a.m. on June 23 that someone had damaged their light post.
  • A resident of the 2500 block of Jasper Court reported around 7:45 a.m. on June 23 that someone had damaged their light post.
  • A resident in the 2900 block of Highland Drive reported around 7:45 a.m. on June 23 that someone damaged their mailbox.

THEFT
A resident in the 2500 block of Mayapple Court reported that personal items went missing from their home between June 2 and June 23.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY?
Staff at a salon in the 2700 block of Dundee Road reported around 7:30 p.m. on June 24 that it appeared someone damaged a window screen, though they did not know when the damage may have occurred.


ARRESTS

A 51-year-old Round Lake man was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on June 15 in the area of Dundee and Pfingsten roads and charged with driving with a suspended license and issued a citation for using an electronic device while driving.

Patricia Steffen, 66, of the 1500 block of Shermer Road, Northbrook, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. on June 17 and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop in 1700 block of Techy Road. Police were dispatched to the area for a report of a possibly intoxicated driver, found a car matching the caller's description and witnessed its driver break a traffic law. The officer pulled Steffen over and determined she was too impaired to complete field sobriety tests. She failed to submit a breath sample after three attempts and was also issued citations for driving without insurance, improper lane usage and failure to dim high beams.

Rodolfo Salazar, 35, of the 1500 block of Quaker Lane, Prospect Heights, was arrested around 11 p.m. on June 21 in the area of Landwehr and Dundee roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. He produced a breath sample indicating a breath alcohol concentration of 0.259, more than three times the legal limit, and was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

Fiona F. Elkes, 56, of the 900 block of Waukegan Road, Deerfield, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on June 21 in the area of Waukegan and Kates roads and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after an officer responding to a driving complaint witnessed her driving "all over the road," without lights and significantly below the speed limit. The officer pulled her over and determined she was impaired. She produced a breath sample indicating a blood alcohol concentration of 0.015, nearly twice the legal limit, and was issued citations for driving without lights and improper lane usage.

Jefferson J. Godoy, 19, of the 5500 block of North Major Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on June 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop for a lane violation in the area of Dundee and Meadow roads. He was also issued a citation for violating a median. He produced a breath sample indicating his blood alcohol concentration was 0.135.

A 40-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on June 22 in the 300 block of Waukegan Road and charged with driving without a valid license and cited for an improper left turn.
