Fate Of Suspended Glenbrook North Hall Monitor's Job Up To Board
District 225's board to consider what to do with an employee who was charged with impersonating a cop and having a loaded gun on campus.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The fate of a licensed private detective and security consultant employed as a hall monitor for Glenbrook North High School accused of impersonating a police officer and having a loaded gun on school property could be taken up by the District 225 board in closed session at its next meeting Sept. 25, the Northbrook Star reports.
Steven E. Schulhof, 60, of the 2600 block of Goldenrod Lane in Glenview, was arrested in the Glenbrook North parking lot shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 after he crashed his car into a pole and needed his car towed, police said. As he was taking his belongings out of his vehicle, he allegedly pulled out a loaded gun.
When asked about the weapon, Schulhof claimed "he had been deputized by the county and did not need a concealed carry card," when he "displayed a gold badge on his waistband and advised the responding officer that he was deputized," according to his criminal complaint. He is charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon and false personation of a peace officer, according to court records. He was also cited for not having a concealed carry permit, police said.

School officials said in a statement after his arrest that Schulhof has been placed on administrative leave and will not be allowed on school property or at school events "until further notice." He was not allowed to carry a weapon on school property, a district spokesperson confirmed.
Schulhof worked as a "para-professional" for the district since 2000, a position that includes 186.5 seven-hour days and a total salary of $31,300.
Glenbrook Schools employ 25 such para-professionals to patrol hallways and open areas of campus, District 225 Superintendent Mike Riggle told the Northbrook Star.
Their duties include interacting with students, visitors and "maintaining order." The positions do not require any credentials beyond a high school diploma and a driver's license, the Star reports.
Riggle told the paper any decision about Schulhof's position has been postponed until after the District 225 board has its next meeting so that school officials are able to complete an investigation of the incident.
