NORTHBROOK, IL — Northbrook Park District officials are working to patch up a portion of the Turf Fields at Techny Prairie Park following vandalism over the Fourth of July weekend. A four-foot square section of the field sustained heavy damage from the launching of illegal fireworks on the turf, according to officials.

The damage has caused an unsafe condition, and a portion of the field is now roped off and unavailable for play. This act of vandalism has caused the need for expensive repairs to the artificial turf and requires partial closure of this popular amenity, according to the park district.

The turf fields were renovated in 2019, 13 years after they were installed. This replacement schedule outlasted the regular 10-year life span of the turf material by three years due to regular and diligent care of this important District amenity.
