Full Cart Retail Theft Attempt Reported At Trader Joe's: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

AGGRAVATED SPEEDING

  • John M. Shenton, 18, of the 2200 block of Drury Lane, Northfield, is accused of speeding, and was issued a citation at 12:22 a.m. Dec. 24, at Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard. He was released after posting a bond of $2,500. A court date of Feb. 10 was assigned.
  • Mainor Oboando Acosta, 27, of the 900 block of Keystone Avenue, Chicago, is accused of speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol, and was issued citations at 4:54 p.m. Dec. 25, at Dundee and Shermer roads. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Feb. 10.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A person reported at 2:09 p.m. Dec. 23, a man broke a window in their vehicle while it was parked in the lot and removed a bag, then left in a vehicle, at The Grove of Northbrook, 200 block of Skokie Boulevard.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

  • A person called police at 3:38 p.m. Dec. 23, to report someone removed a catalytic converter from a parked bus at Village Presbyterian Church, 1300 block of Shermer Road.
  • A person reported at 4:08 p.m. Dec. 24, catalytic converters were removed from three cars in the 2900 block of Maria Avenue.
  • A resident of the 400 block of Anthony Trail called police at 4:53 p.m. Dec. 24, to report the theft of the catalytic converter from their vehicle.
  • An employee at Mark Vend Co., 3000 block of MacArthur Boulevard, reported at 3:34 p.m. Dec. 26, someone removed several catalytic converters from parked vehicles.
  • A person in the 3100 block of MacArthur Boulevard reported at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 26, that between Dec. 23 and Dec. 26, catalytic converters were removed from 10 business vehicles.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of Nordstrom Rack, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, flagged down an officer at 8 p.m. Dec. 23, to report a theft that had just occurred. The complainant reported that two women removed three fragrance bottles from the store and fled without paying for the items.
  • An employee at Trader Joe's, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 4:24 p.m. Dec. 26, a man and woman attempted to take a full cart of items from the store without paying for the items. The subjects left the area in a vehicle without the items.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO A VEHICLE

An officer while on a routine patrol in the 3200 block of Doolittle Drive reported at 3:12 a.m. Dec. 25, someone was cutting catalytic converters from parked vehicles. A total of three vehicles were found to have had converters removed, and an additional converter was lying on the ground. A vehicle was seen by the officer leaving the area prior to the officer finding that the thefts had occurred.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO AUTOMOBILE

A person in the 2800 block of Weller Lane reported that during the overnight hours of Dec. 29 someone opened the rear door of a parked vehicle while it was in the driveway. Nothing appeared to be missing from or disturbed inside the vehicle.
