Full-Day Kindergarten Comes to District 28
Board approves option for full-day kindergarten with an annual fee of less than $500.

NORTHBROOK, IL - Full-day kindergarten will begin next year in Northbrook School District 28.
Parents will have the option to send their kindergartners to school all day for $475 for the entire year as the District avoided a tuition-based program that could have been upwards of $3,000, according to the Daily North Shore.
“I was pleased we were able to do this in a careful, studied process,” said Larry Hewitt, District 28 superintendent. “Not only were we able to do this with a $475 fee, but we will be able to do it with long-term sustainability with the program we designed.”

The existing extended-session program will be eliminated with the District taking a $200,000 loss on the endeavor, but budget maneuvering made the total cost of the new program just $524,400. As part of the budgeting process, fees for K-8 students will rise by $50 a term.
