GBN Varsity Bowling Team Finishes Third in State

For the first time in Glenbrook North history, the GBN boys varsity bowling team placed in the Top 3 with a third place finish in the state competition held at St. Clair bowl in Fairview Heights, IL. Coach Todd Rubin said “This means so much to me just thinking back 12 years ago. There was not a boys bowling program at Glenbrook North, and a dozen years later we are one of the top three teams in the state. We’ve made the state finals 6 times previously, never finished higher than 14th. “ The team was led by Senior Kai Nitzschke, who finished 8th overall, Junior Nick Sachs, 6th overall, and Junior Josh Sachs, who finished 2nd overall, with a 6-game average of 228. “We were certainly benefited by the experience of Kai, Josh and Nick, however, even though they were certainly our score leaders we could not have done it without a full roster of players, and I think that’s what really makes for a great team. The group came together, both on and off the lanes and the chemistry we had is second to none.” said Rubin. Along with seniors Evan D’Souza and Marc Gurson, Sophomore Asher Harris and Freshman Sammy Torf, GBN finished with 12,196 pins, 155 pins behind second place finisher Harrisburg High School and 205 pins behind first place finisher Salem High School. “I was getting teared up when our name was announced at that final ceremony. It just was so special and so amazing to think that we made something out of nothing. Truly, this was a special moment.” said Coach Rubin.
