Glenview Man Strikes Officers After DUI Arrest: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Randall S. Louis, 74, of the 3200 block of Brandess Drive, Glenview, is accused of felony driving under the influence, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and was arrested at 7:41 p.m. Sept. 16, at Willow Road and Salceda Drive. While being processed at the police station on the charges, Louis became combative and struck two officers, according to police. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office was contacted and approved felony charges against Louis. His next court date is set for Oct. 7.
  • Malgorzata Cwieka, 62, of the 200 block of 5th Street, Wheeling, is accused of driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Sept. 21, at Waukegan and Shermer. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond was assigned a court date of Oct. 28.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Eder Jesus Pastrana Mendez, 25, of the 700 block of Piper Lane, Prospect Heights, is accused of driving on a suspended license, no insurance, expired registration, and was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 18, at Willow and The Strand. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Oct. 28.

INCIDENTS

THREATENING TELEPHONE CALL

A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 6:25 p.m. Sept. 16, they received a notification from their bank regarding a fraudulent charge that was placed on their bank account. Shortly after verifying that the charge was not authorized, the complainant began receiving threatening calls from an unknown subject.

FRAUD

An employee at Crate and Barrel, 1200 block of Techny Road, called police to report they were alerted of two fraudulent charges placed to an online customer's accounts on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16. The purchases were large sum totals to an out-of-state location. The customer was able to cancel the second order, but not the first.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 600 block of Greenwood reported at 6:42 p.m. Sept. 17, someone removed a package that was delivered to their residence without permission.
  • Police responded to Trader Joe's, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, at 7:37 p.m. Sept. 17, regarding two cases of thefts of wallets from complainant’s purses by unknown people. In each of the cases, the complainants were notified that their credit cards had been used at several jurisdictions outside of Northbrook after the theft.
  • A Knoll Drive resident called police at 10:05 a.m. Sept. 19, to report they have an online business and had completed a sale which was intended to be a gift. The person asked the complainant to include a $300 gift card with the order and sent the items out as requested by the purchaser. Complainant said that they have not received payment for the item purchased or the gift card as of the time of the report, and also that the gift card had been used to make purchases.
  • An employee at Toyota of Northbrook, 500 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported that during the overnight hours of Sept. 23 someone entered the garage and removed four wheels and tires from a vehicle that was being serviced.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE PROPERTY

Police responded to Village Green, 1800 block of Walters Avenue, at 7:31 p.m. Sept. 18, for someone causing damage to the bathroom. The officer did not locate any subjects, but did find several soap dispensers removed from a wall, trash cans overturned and paper on the floor and counters.

DISTURBANCE

  • An office owner reported at 5:06 p.m. Sept. 20, that clients of Northshore Family Pet Hospital, 300 block of Skokie Boulevard, regularly allow their dogs to urinate on rocks in front of the building and that the smell comes into the complainant’s office.
  • A person called police at 6:38 p.m. Sept. 21, to report a woman was yelling at people in the locker room that were not wearing masks at Lifetime Fitness, 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The woman was contacted by officers and left without incident.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Yorkshire Lane resident reported at 11:12 a.m. Sept. 22, someone had used their information in November 2020 to apply for unemployment benefits without their permission.
  • A Lee Road resident called police at 5:35 p.m. Sept. 22, to report someone opened a bank account with their information without permission.
