Ham Radio Request Denied for Northbrook Man
Village turns down resident's request for an amateur radio in his front yard.
NORTHBROOK, IL - Village trustees here were less than accommodating when it came to a longtime resident’s request to place an amateur radio in his front yard.
The board voted 4-1 to deny the request from Gregg Salomone at a recent meeting, according to the Northbrook Star.
Salomone wanted to put up a 63-foot, 3-inch wide antenna in the front yard of his residence in the 4000 block of Yorkshire Lane. He said he’s lived in Northbrook for 30 years at five different houses and has always had a ham radio.

But Salomone said the property at Yorkshire Lane is set so far back, an antenna there would not work.

Still, the village board denied the zoning variation request, citing the possible complaints that would come from neighbors. Although no one spoke up against it at the meeting.
"It'd be disturbing to the neighborhood and disturbing to the neighbors," Trustee A.C. Buehler said. "That's why it's not (allowed) in the front yard in the beginning."
