Hotel Guest Punches Police Officer: Northbrook Police Blotter

After being trespassed from the hotel, the Deerfield resident returned that evening and was found sitting in a couch in the lobby.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT

Timothy J. Deemie, of Effingham, had a warrant out of Lake County for failure to appear in court, and was arrested at 1:07 p.m. April 5, in the 2700 block of Dundee Road. Police had responded to a report of someone drinking out of a paper bag near the rear door of a restaurant in that location. Deemie reportedly told police he had been dropped off there and was still trying to travel south. A name check found the active warrant. After his arrest, Deemie was turned over to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

REVOKED/SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Justin T. Gricar, of Hebron, is accused of improper lane usage, speeding (60 mph in a 40 mph zone), driving while license revoked, and was arrested at 2:58 a.m. April 7, at Dundee Road and Oakleaf Terrace. A court date of May 21 was assigned.

BATTERY TO A PEACE OFFICER

Todd A. Cohen, of Deerfield, is accused of battery to a peace officer, and was arrested at 9:50 a.m. April 10, in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police had responded to a hotel because the management needed assistance with removing Cohen from his room. Due to Cohen's erratic and confronting behavior, the management wanted him removed and issued a no trespass letter to the property. As officers were escorting Cohen from the hotel, he reportedly turned and struck one of the officers in the arm with a closed fist. The officer had a slight injury to the area of contact. At 6:26 p.m. officers were called back to the hotel because Cohen returned and proceeded to sit on the couch in the lobby. Cohen again was arrested and charged with illegal trespass to land. The court date for both charges is set for May 24.

UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON

Sevin Brown, of Hammond, Indiana, is accused of unlawful use of a weapon, and was arrested at 3:45 a.m. April 11, at Dundee and Waukegan roads. Police saw a 2000 white Dodge traveling at a high rate of speed (55 mph in a 40 mph zone). Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to another Hammond resident, who was the driver. Two passengers, including Brown, were inside the vehicle. While speaking with the group, police could smell a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the car. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a 40 caliber Glock handgun. It was under the passenger seat, where Brown had been sitting. Due to an extended magazine, it had 22 loaded rounds and one in the chamber of the gun. During the investigation, it was determined that it was Brown's. The driver was charged with misdemeanor speeding. A court date of April 12 was assigned for Brown.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

Prince Moor, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:26 p.m. April 11, at Sanders Road and Russett Lane. A court date of May 24 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

FLEEING AND ELUDING

  • Police saw a dark-colored sedan traveling at a high rate of speed at 10:30 p.m. April 7, at Willow and Landwehr roads. The officer measured the vehicle's speed at over 100 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer activated his lights and attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but the vehicle fled and the officer lost sight of it.
  • Police saw a white sedan traveling at a high rate of speed at 3:11 a.m. April 8, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. The officer measured the vehicle's speed at 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights, but the vehicle sped up to 100 mph to elude the officer. The vehicle was last seen traveling westbound on Dundee Road into Wheeling.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident in the 2300 block of Ash Lane reported at 1:22 p.m. April 8, someone had cut the lights off of her backyard patio area light string. A total of 15 lights were cut from the electrical cord.

THEFT OF MISLAID PROPERTY/CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A Lake Cook Road resident called police at 8:15 a.m. April 9, to report she believed she accidentally dropped her wallet, someone picked it up, and tried to fraudulently use them to purchase goods. All the transactions were declined by her credit card companies.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Dell Road resident reported at 2:35 p.m. April 9, she had recently reviewed her bank statement and noticed someone had gained access to her account and transferred over $12,000 to different banks and credit card accounts. After she contacted her bank to report the fraud, it was learned that the person might have gained access through her computer due to a virus.
