Man Strikes Cop In Head, Causes Contusion: Northbrook Police Blotter

The Northbrook resident was charged with felony aggravated battery to a police officer following the Monday incident.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

BATTERY TO POLICE OFFICERS

  • Jose Quintan, of Highwood, is accused of two counts of battery, and was arrested at 1:24 a.m. Sept. 29, at Lake Cook Road and Constance Lane. According to police, two Northbrook officers assisted the Riverwood Police Department on a traffic stop. The driver was asked to perform field sobriety tests due to his possible intoxication. The front seat passenger, Quintana, became agitated with police and refused to stay in the vehicle. Quintana reportedly started throwing contents of a bottle at the officers and became aggressive with them. Quintana was taken into custody. During the processing of the arrest while at the Northbrook Police Department, Quintana allegedly called the officers names and continued to kick the door to the lockup facility. A court date is set for Oct. 29.
  • Yadamkhuu Naramgerel, of Northbrook, is accused of felony aggravated battery to a police officer, and was arrested at 3:44 a.m. Oct. 1, in the 2100 block of Valencia Drive. Naramgerel's mother had contacted Northbrook police because her son, Naramgerel, and his friend were reportedly intoxicated at the residence and the friend wouldn't leave. When officers tried speaking to Naramgerel, he did not want to cooperate. During the conversation, it was clear to the officers that Naramgerel needed medical attention due to the extreme intoxication. The Northbrook Fire Department was called and tried assisting Naramgerel to the ambulance. While trying to treat Naramgerel, he struck one of the officers on the head with his closed fist. The officer sustained a contusion to his head. The court date is set for Oct. 2.

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Dionel Reina, of Chicago, is accused of speeding (70 mph in a 40 mph zone), driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 2:55 a.m. Sept. 30, at Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard. Reina was released and assigned a court date of Oct. 24.

Octavio Garmendia, of Chicago, is accused of having defective headlights, a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 8:50 p.m. Oct. 2, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. A court date of Oct. 24 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

A citizen reported at 11:09 p.m. Sept. 27, that he had eaten at a restaurant in the 900 block of Willow Road and noticed his phone was missing as he was leaving. The complainant walked back into the restaurant, but he couldn't find it. The staff looked around the restaurant, but the complainant’s phone was never found.

VANDALISM

The staff at a hotel in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 4:37 p.m. Sept. 29, coffee sweetener had been thrown throughout the floor of their ballroom. They also noticed that someone threw food products on the walls and floor of the adjacent hallway. While cleaning it up, one of the staff members noticed several people running around in the vicinity of the ballroom. The subjects appeared to be young teens. When the staff asked if they were guests of the hotel, they said no and ran out the exit door and fled on their bicycles.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident of the 1100 block of Midway Road called police at 1:04 p.m. Oct. 1, to report his 2023 silver Kia Sorento was stolen from his driveway while it was parked overnight. The complainant couldn’t remember if he had left the spare keys inside, but knew it was unlocked. The complainant checked his vehicle’s app on the phone and it indicated it was stolen sometime around 12:20am.

THEFT

A citizen called police at 8:19 p.m. Oct. 1, to report she had used a ride-share to drive her to her bank. She asked the ride-share to please wait while she was in the bank before driving her to a retail store. The complainant left her property in the vehicle while she walked into the bank. When she returned to the parking lot, the ride-share was gone. The complainant stated the driver stole her property, which was left in the car. The complainant called the ride-share organization, and they advised her to contact the police.
