On June 1st at Five Seasons Northbrook: “Why Does My Back Hurt?”
In free session, doctor of physical therapy will offer tips to combat lower back pain, the single leading cause of disability worldwide
If you’re like 30 percent of Americans, you have had lower back pain in the past three months. Expand the timeframe, and the prevalence of lower back pain is higher as it is the single leading cause of disability worldwide, according to the Global Burden of Disease.
Against that achy backdrop, a local doctor of physical therapy is leading a one-hour workshop starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 1st at Five Seasons Family Sports Club, 1300 Techny Road in Northbrook.
Dr. Piotr Solowiej, whose practice is based in Northbrook, will discuss misconceptions about pain and the lumbar spine, and will offer active strategies to help the public to minimize and prevent the onset of lower back pain.

According to Solowiej, the program is especially geared to anyone with current or previous episodes of spine pain, or other pain that did not improve with previous physical therapy or other interventions. Solowiej is a former standout high school baseball player--and former lower back pain patient, lending him additional insight into the rehabilitation experience.
The doctor’s clinical interests include spine rehabilitation, mobility development, injury prevention, and movement coordination.
