Lexus Stolen From Garage, Felony Retail Theft: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — A Lexus stolen from a garage while residents slept, two men accused of felony retail theft and several DUI arrests are among the latest reports from the Northbrook Police Department.

The following information comes from Northbrook Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Residential Burglary

2500 block of Illinois Road: Residents reported at 2:43 a.m. Sept. 17, that someone entered their unlocked Hyundai, took a garage door remote and used it to enter the garage. Police said a purse and key fob were left inside an unlocked 2026 Lexus, which was then stolen while the residents were asleep.

Felony Retail Theft

Maurice D. Minor, of Chicago, and Jerome L. Brown, of Chicago, were arrested at 12:44 p.m. Sept. 15, in the 1000 block of Willow Road after police said they stole a Craftsman lawn mower from a hardware store.

Police said officers had information that the GMC Yukon used by the pair had been involved in other hardware-store thefts around the Chicago area. Investigators also determined items that had been paid for were purchased using a stolen credit card number.

Minor was charged with felony retail theft, unlawful use of a credit card and improper use of registration. Brown was charged with felony retail theft and unlawful use of a credit card. Both were given Sept. 17 court dates.

DUI

Mykola Melnychuk, of Chicago, was arrested at 11:23 p.m. Sept. 12, near Willow and Shermer roads after police said he struck a curb while turning and later accelerated to 70 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Police said Melnychuk appeared intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with improper lane usage, misdemeanor speeding, DUI and DUI with a blood-alcohol concentration over .08. Police listed his BAC as .171. His court date was set for Oct. 14.

DUI

Esteban I. Moreno Castillo, of Chicago, was arrested at 8:39 a.m. Sept. 16, in the 900 block of Dundee Road after police said an officer saw his Nissan with a defective headlight crossing lane markings.

Police said Moreno Castillo appeared intoxicated, had an open beer in the vehicle and failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with defective headlight, improper lane usage, DUI and illegal transportation of open alcohol. His court date was set for Oct. 9.

DUI

Tyler J. Hofland, of Chicago, was arrested at 7:52 p.m. Sept. 17, near Dundee and Midway roads after police responded to a report of a Toyota Prius hitting curbs.

Police said Hofland appeared intoxicated, failed field sobriety tests and had open alcohol containers in the vehicle. He was charged with improper lane usage, DUI and illegal transportation of alcohol. His court date was set for Oct. 9.

Felony Theft, Forgery

Steven R. Seebacher, of Wilmette, was arrested at 1 p.m. Sept. 17, in the 1200 block of Mount Vernon Terrace following an investigation into two business checks reported stolen from a home in July.

Police said the checks were later cashed with a forged signature. Seebacher was charged with felony theft, forgery and misdemeanor theft. His court date was set for Sept. 21.

Burglary To Vehicle

800 block of Waukegan Road: A resident reported at 11:22 a.m. Sept. 11, that someone entered his unlocked Mercedes overnight and stole a backpack containing a work laptop. The loss was estimated at $260.

Stolen Airline Miles

2500 block of Campden Lane: A resident reported at 3:03 p.m. Sept. 11, that someone hacked his airline mileage account, changed the username and stole 85,720 points.

Fleeing And Eluding

Willow and Waukegan roads: Officers reported at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 12, that a Toyota with incorrect license plates fled after police attempted a traffic stop. Police said the driver later drove onto a sidewalk to escape officers after becoming stuck in traffic and was last seen heading south on Patriot Boulevard.

Burglary To Vehicle

900 block of Spring Hill Drive: A resident reported at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 14, that someone entered his Cadillac, stole a backpack and other items valued at $3,380, removed the front license plate and spilled a chemical on the hood.

Fleeing And Eluding

Willow and Shermer roads: Police said at 10:45 p.m. Sept. 15, an Infiniti traveling 60 mph in a 45-mph zone refused to stop and accelerated to 75 mph before fleeing Northbrook.

Vehicle Burglaries

2400 block of Woodlawn Road, 1600 block of Birch Road and 2400 block of Illinois Road: Three residents reported at 6:02 a.m. Sept. 17, that someone entered vehicles parked outside their homes. Police said a pepper ball gun was stolen from one of the vehicles.

Suspended Driver’s License

Renzo A. Vento-Valdez, of Chicago, was arrested at 10:42 p.m. Sept. 11, in the 2100 block of Waukegan Road and charged with driving with a suspended license. His court date was set for Oct. 20.

Suspended Registration

Maria D. Salgado Leon, of Chicago, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. Sept. 14, near Dundee and Huehl roads and charged with defective headlight, suspended registration and operating an uninsured vehicle. Her court date was set for Oct. 20.

Misdemeanor Speeding

Abdulmannan Haroon, of Northbrook, was arrested at 1:36 p.m. Sept. 16, near Willow and Pfingsten roads after police said he was driving 71 mph in a 40-mph zone. He was charged with misdemeanor speeding and given an Oct. 9 court date.

No Valid Driver’s License

Amber K. Love, of Chicago, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Sept. 17, near Walters Avenue and Greenbriar Lane after police said she drove through a stop sign. She was charged with driving without a valid license and given an Oct. 20 court date.

Suspended Registration

Tatsiana Mankevich, of Chicago, was arrested at 11:13 p.m. Sept. 17, near Chapel Court and Waukegan Road. Police said officers saw open bottles of wine in the vehicle and determined its registration was suspended.

She was charged with improper lane usage, suspended registration and illegal transportation of alcohol. Her court date was set for Oct. 20.
