Local Business Wins $30K From Comcast

Noggin Builders was selected as one of 6 "Innovations for Entrepreneurs" nationwide.

A Northbrook start-up business was recently the recipient of a $30,000 grant from Comcast Business as one of six “Innovations for Entrepreneurs” winners nationwide.

Owner Amy Torf of 18-month-old Noggin Builders, 3073 Dundee Road, in the White Plains shopping center, wrote a 231-word essay to Comcast Business, a division of the conglomerate that provides commercial communication services, explaining how the business’ education enhancement could use an infusion of cash and won $10,000 in a regional contest, according to the Northbrook Star.

The business won another $20,000 after Torf’s students parents and friends helped vote her in as one of the best in the nationwide contest.

“After it went to regionals, it’s all about the voting,” Comcast’s Jack Segal said.

“What’s so fascinating about the Northbrook business is that she’s not just thinking about technology and innovation to power her business,” he said. “It’s the fact that’s she’s sort of helping to nurture the next generation of innovation. That sort of resonated with us.”
